Semyon Frolov

March 2026 – Frolov became the number one goalie prospect in Carolina’s system upon being selected 41st overall last summer, filling a clear organizational need. This season has been split between two MHL clubs, posting a 1.83 GAA and .929 save percentage in seven games with Moscow Spartak Jr. while listed on the KHL parent club’s roster without yet seeing action. A 50-game MHL career with a .916 save percentage and 2.25 GAA suggests the foundation is real. The upside is a potential starting goaltender at the NHL level. Too far away for near-term fantasy consideration, but a priority add in the deepest dynasty formats. Ryan Downey

August 2025 – If there was a clear need within the Hurricanes prospect pool, it was goalie. Nobody outside of Ruslan Khazheyev really stood out and the depth was depleted further with the loss of Patrik Hamrla after his rights expired. Frolov immediately becomes the number one goalie in the Hurricanes system and there is a lot to like about the guy some scouts had ranked as the number one goalie in the 2025 Draft. He is mechanically sound with great skating ability. He has the prototypical size that you would like in an NHL goalie, standing 6-3 and just around 200 pounds. He has a knack for the fantastical, being able to make highlight reel saves like nothing. This is also his downside, as right now his style in net is much more chaotic than a normal NHL goalie and something that needs to be toned down and calmed down in the future. But make no mistake, Frolov is a potential 1A starter at the NHL level. Nick Bass

Final Rankings – A pro-style game and size, in addition to mature vision and reflexes, make Frolov a highly projectable NHLer. Some scouts who’ve been able to get proper viewings of Frolov think he may be the best goaltender in this year’s draft.—Austin Kelly
