Fantasy Summary

A big-bodied winger with a quick release. He needs to add quickness to his game and projects as a potential fourth-line grinder at the NHL level, if he makes it.

July 2025 – Stange had essentially a lost season in 2023-24, spending most of his time in the press box and suiting up for only seven games, registering zero points. In 2024, however, he transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha and turned it around, scoring nearly a point-per-game with 16 goals and 18 assists in 36 games while wearing the “A” on his sweater, and was even a Hobey Baker finalist. His rights expire with the Red Wings on August 15th, so his future is still up in the air as of this update. If he can secure a professional contract in Detroit or elsewhere, he might get back on the dynasty fantasy radar. Jeff Grybel

June 2023 – The big bodied winger struggled during his junior season with Wisconsin registering just three goals and eight assists in 34 games – nearly identical numbers to his sophomore season where he recorded four goals and seven assists. While he possesses a quick release and a pretty heavy shot, it hasn’t translated to the scoresheet. The 2020 fourth-round pick also struggled defensively combining for a minus 18 during his previous two seasons. The Red Wings organization has yet to sign the Wisconsin native and it remains to be seen what his future looks like with the team. What the forward doesn’t lack is size but he needs to develop a more physical style of play if he wants to find his way to the NHL, as he currently projects to be a fourth line grinder.  As of now he doesn’t have much fantasy value even in the deepest of keeper leagues. Evan Sabourin

November 2020 – Stange was chosen by the Red wings with the 97th pick in the 2020 NHL draft after going undrafted in his first year of eligibility. He spent the 2019-2020 season in the USHL where he registered 26 goals and 19 assists in 48 games with Sioux City and Sioux Falls. The Wisconsin native has good size and a quick release, but his feet look heavy and his stride isn’t mechanically sound. Stange is committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2020-2021 season.
