Sam Colangelo

March 2026 – Colangelo has been bouncing between the NHL and AHL in 2025-26. There aren’t enough roster spots in the NHL, but be certain that he remains one of the very first call-ups. Colangelo’s game is good enough for the NHL, which he’s proven in his nearly 50 games in the big league so far. He is used as one of the Gulls’ main trigger men, and it’s easy to see him getting used on the second power play in the NHL. What Colangelo brought in his last 30-game NHL stint seems likely to be about what we should expect in the future too, with some additional growth, so if he was able to be on a roster in your league with those stats, then keep an eye on Colangelo. November 2025 – Most of the Ducks’ roster has seen improved fantasy value under the new coaching staff, but Colangelo might be one of the few players whose value has actually declined. No longer a regular in the middle-six with occasional promotions to the top line, Colangelo has been relegated to the 13th forward role and is frequently scratched. When he does play, he is averaging just over ten minutes per game this season. It is a puzzling situation from a fan perspective, as he proved to be highly effective in the AHL and looked solid in his NHL stints last year. While his long-term outlook remains unchanged primarily, his short-term value has taken a significant hit. Markus R

October 2025 – Looks like Colangelo has played his way into a full-time role in the NHL already. Torching the AHL for half of last season was enough, and the big power forward will now likely remain in the NHL for many years to come. Colangelo could be a valuable player, as he averaged over two hits per game with 13 minutes of TOI, ten goals, and a respectable number of shots and blocks. He is not a typical bottom-six player either; his deployment was closer to middle-six, getting time on the second line and second power play unit. Expect worse deployment this season due to all the additions the Ducks made, but with time, he could play his way into fantasy-relevant deployments. Colangelo has a cannon shot, which he is accurate with, that alone should net him around 15-20 goals a year. Likely useful in multi-cat leagues or very deep point leagues. – Markus R

August 2025 – Colangelo surprised the Ducks with how quickly he adapted to both the pro game and the NHL, thus earning himself a two-year contract worth, $1.7 million with the Anaheim Ducks on August 4, 2025, that carries a cap hit of $850,000 and expires at the end of the 2026-27 season. In 32 games with Anaheim during the 2024-25 campaign, he scored 10 goals and two assists, showing that his natural scoring ability translates well even at the highest level. While Colangelo’s shooting percentage is likely to regress, his consistent offensive production in the AHL —22 goals and 18 assists in just 40 games —shows that he knows how to put up points. The Ducks took notice, rewarding him with a spot on the second power play and occasional looks on the top unit. Colangelo is not just an all-offense player; he delivered over two hits and half a block per game in the NHL, making him a strong contributor in peripheral categories. If his ice time increases from the current 12-minute average to 15+, his fantasy value could grow across the board. Unless Anaheim adds major pieces in free agency, Colangelo should be on the NHL squad next season. For fantasy managers in multi-category leagues, he is a name to watch closely. With 20-goal, 40-point potential and the upside to contribute 200 hits and 40 blocks, Colangelo offers a good mix of scoring and physicality. Markus R

July 2024 – Colangelo made a major stride in his development during the 2023-24 season, spending his time with Western Michigan University and some reps with both the Anaheim Ducks and the San Diego Gulls. The 6-3 power forward managed to score his first NHL goal during his brief stint. His short time with the Ducks was an eye-opener, and he can potentially make a case for a starting spot with the main team next season with a good camp. May 2022 – Colangelo will return to Northeastern for his junior campaign. The budding power forward made nice strides as a sophomore and has the skill to go with size and strength. Any fantasy relevance is still a good five years away. – Dobber

December 2020 – Colangelo has made Team USA for the 2021 World Junior Championship. He will likely be a bottom-six forward for the Americans because of the physicality and energy he brings in all three zones. Lucas Main

October 2020 – Colangelo was drafted 36th overall by the Ducks. Colangelo is expected to spend at least two years in college before turning pro.  Jokke Nevalainen

September 2020 – Colangelo was a major contributor to the dominant Steel team this season. In 44 games he registered 58 total points. He is not the best skater by any means, but he does have decent first steps and edgework. Because of his strong lower-body stance, he works hard in the corners and can win a lot of battles. This also helps him with strong puck protection. On the offensive side, he is a goal scorer with a fantastic shot, who uses it to his advantage all over the ice. In the defensive end, he is a hard-nosed player who plays with high energy. He plays more of a physical game, being able to play the body but also uses his stick to break up plays. The University of Northeastern commit may have to work on developing a stronger defensive awareness game if he wants to compete at the next level. Clare McManus
