July 2024 – Gibson has gone the usual Capitals goalie route, which is to start in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays. He managed two AHL starts, with Shepard in the NHL, and played very well in those games (obviously the better team helped) with a 0.915 save percentage. In the ECHL, through 42 games, he had a 22-14-3 record but a 0.899 save percentage as the league/team is not as structured as an AHL squad. The Capitals have an overflow of goalies right now with four spots between the NHL and AHL, but five netminders to fill the roles. It would be highly unlikely Washington would want Gibson going back to the ECHL, especially as he is 25, so a move may happen. A full season playing in the AHL (even split starting) should give fantasy owners a clear view what Gibson can be, but he has a short rope due to his age. Pat Quinn
October 2023 – Gibson signed a one-year deal out of the NCAA with Washington at the end of the season, and was around the team through the end of April. He finished his Harvard career with a 18-7-2 record and a 0.919 save percentage. Gibson will likely go the route of many other Capitals goalie prospects, which is the ECHL first. Gibson will battle Bjorklund for the crease with the South Carolina Sting Rays. After that, he will begin to challenge for the AHL starting role. If Shepard is claimed off of waivers though, Gibson could start in the AHL with the Hershey Bears and battle Clay Stevenson for the net too. Pat Quinn
February 2023 – A lot of Capitals fans are worried with the new that Henry Thrun (ANA pick) is going the UFA route, as Hardvard draftees playing in the NCAA are now getting the reputation of heading to UFA rather than staying with the team that drafted them. Thankfully, the Capitals have a deep pool in net, and locked up in the NHL, if Gibson is to leave (which may entice him to). Gibson has a better team in front of him this season, which has helped him in the win column, but do not let that take away from his play. He has been incredibly solid again and it is nice to see great numbers again, especially since he lost a full season of development. Gibson has a 0.918 sv% and finally got a shutout again. He is a great goalie prospect to own, but admittedly for Fantasy GMs he may have more NHL promise on another team. Pat Quinn
September 2022 – Gibson will play his final season in the NCAA for Harvard returning as the starter for 2022-23. In 29 games he registered a 18-10-1 record and a 0.918 save percentage. He looks to be a solid starter in the future. Pat Quinn
January 2022 – Gibson’s long lay off from not being able to play thanks to the NCAA shut down has effected his numbers this season. He has only played in 10 games for Harvard in the NCAA and is sporting a 6-4-0 record with a 0.90 sv%. Harvard is not as strong as it would have been last season either. A lot of players on the team have come along slowly so Gibson’s numbers should improve over time. He will still have one more year at Harvard if he does not go pro, but the Capitals likely will prefer he waits as they have a lot of young goalies in the system as it is. Pat Quinn
May 2021 – Gibson was not able to get in any hockey games for the year as Harvard University elected to have its season cancelled in the NCAA. It is unkown how this will effect Gibson going forward, but hopefully it has no effect as goalies need games to develop when they are under 23, as they cannot just sit all year. Pat Quinn
March 2020 – Gibson posted superb numbers in his first NCAA season. In 23 games he posted a 2.61 goals against average, 0.916 save percentage, and 11 wins. Harvard was a middle of the pack team so these numbers are quite encouraging. The next step is for him to keep up strong numbers in the NCAA for 2020-2021. There may be a very bright future here. Pat Quinn
September 2019 – Drafted in 2018, Gibson is the newest addition to the Capitals goaltending system. He is still a ways away so there is no immediate threat to Vanecek or Samsonov. Drafted out of the NAHL, Gibson was one of the top goalies in that league, posting a 0.935 save percentage, and tied the league record with 11 shut outs in 43 games. He also was stellar in the playoffs posting a 0.950 sv% in eight games as he was a top goalie again. Then 2019 in the USHL happened. Gibson again played 43 games, but posted a 0.890 sv% in the higher league. To Gibson’s credit he played on one of the worse teams in the league. He will now play for Harvard University in the NCAA where he hopes to improve his numbers and development. Pat Quinn
