Fantasy Summary

A true Swiss Army Knife style player, St. Martin can play in any situation and play alongside bottom-six grinders or top-six scorers. His skating is one of his best attributes and could help him take the next leap in his game. He will need to improve most aspects of his game, especially his consistency, to make the NHL but as a player who went in the sixth round as an overager, St. Martin looks to be a nice upside bet.

Observations

September 2026 – St. Martin played in a depth role for the Checkers this year, and while not a net negative for his development, it goes to show he is further down the depth chart than it originally seemed. However, St. Martin is able to play in the depth role effectively, but for his long-term NHL outlook, he will need to climb the ranks this year or be relegated to a career AHLer. James Connelly
August 2025 – St. Martin finished his final WHL campaign top ten in goal scoring with 39, and was second only to Gavin McKenna on Medicine Hat in that category. There is so much to love with St. Martin; the hustle is elite, and he has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. He is expected to jump to the AHL this coming year, but could stay back in Medicine Hat if the Tigers want him to be one of their over-agers. St. Martin spent most of his year on the Tigers’ second line and found himself scoring in a variety of ways. Whatever comes next from St. Martin, you can expect him to develop his game further, as he has shown consistent and steady growth since his first year being draft-eligible. James Connelly
January 2025 – Currently, only five players in the WHL have more goals than St. Martin. With 28 goals in 39 games, he has been the beneficiary of playing alongside Gavin McKenna. While McKenna was at the World Junior Championships, St. Martin’s production stayed consistent showing that he is still generating plenty of offense himself. The best part about St. Martin’s game isn’t his offense but rather the motor he plays with. He plays with a style that is translatable to professional hockey. There are offensive translatability questions because of how streaky he is, and because he plays with McKenna, but the flashes he displays show that he could hold his own in the NHL potentially. St. Martin’s first year in professional hockey will tell a lot about his future upside but if he can develop properly, he could be a fantastic middle-six piece for the Panthers down the road. James Connelly

September 2024 – St. Martin has quickly become one of the more talked about names in the Panthers prospect pool after leading the Panthers in goals during their prospect tournament. He was originally passed upon in his draft year but as a D+1 player, St. Martin broke out and played alongside elite talents like 2024 4th overall pick Cayden Lindstrom (CBJ), 2024 2nd rounder Andrew Basha (CGY), and projected 2026 top pick Gavin McKenna. While St. Martin can slot in alongside this high-end talent, he can also fit seamlessly with bottom-six players which bodes well for his NHL certainty as players who can play top-six or bottom-six minutes tend to have better odds of making the NHL. The main issue for St. Martin is his consistency as he can show flashes of dominance and then that disappears for periods. St. Martin is a low-risk high-reward bet from the Panthers. If he can string things together this year in Medicine Hat, he could be near the top of the WHL’s scoring leaderboard. He is a project pick but if the Panthers development staff can work with St. Martin to unlock his full potential, he could become a player for them who scores in their middle-six. James Connelly
