Filip Lindberg

May 2022 – The NCAA champion signed with Pittsburgh in July 2021 and played seven games in the AHL before an ankle injury sidelined him. In his absence, it was a bit of a merry-go-round between the pipes in Wilkes-Barre, with career minor leaguers Louis Dominigue, Alex D’Orio, and Tommy Nappier all playing 20+ games. Lindberg should at least split the net as a 1B in the minors this year – if he remains in the organization. The Penguins will have an active off-season and they have a fair amount of depth in net. July 2019 – The freshman UMass goaltender took over the starting gig part way through the season and led the young NCAA squad all the way to the national championship game where they fell to Minnesota-Duluth. He was on the Finnish world junior squad that earned the gold medal last year, earning a shutout in his only game played at the tournament. Statically, Lindberg was outstanding in college (.934 S%, 1.60 GAA) but he is a bit undersized at just 6-0. As a seventh round pick, he is destined to be a long-term project for the Wild who now have a full pipeline of goaltenders. The 2019 seventh-round pick of the Wild was originally eligible for the 2018 draft, making him a double over-aged player.  There are skills evident but the fact of the matter is that in order for Lindberg to gain relevancy within the Wild organization, the young Finn will have to continue playing at a high level in the NCAA and then work his way through the Wild system.
