Dennis Cholowski

April 2018 – Cholowski continues to develop at a nice pace as a two-way defender with very good skating and playmaking skills.  He can run a power play, has good mobility and transitions the puck well out of the defensive zone. Most recently a point-a-game player at the junior level, Cholowski will soon begin his career as a professional at the AHL level and compete with a number of good Red Wings defensive prospects. Cholowski still projects as a top-four NHL defenceman with offensive upside. Mark Hillier

November 2017 – Since opting out of university to sign a contract with the Red Wings, Cholowski has made a relatively smooth adjustment to playing in the WHL for the Prince George Cougar. Despite going pointless in his last four games, the young rearguard has still tallied a respectable five goals and 14 points in 17 games played. His strong play earned him a spot on team WHL earlier this month as they faced team Russia in the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series where he recorded one assist in the game two game matchup. June 2017 – On April 5th Cholowski opted to leave St. Cloud State and sign a three-year entry-level contract with the Red Wings. Two days later he signed an ATO with Detroit’s farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins. He played one regular season game for the Griffins and has since served as an extra player while they compete for the Calder Cup. Cholowski has reportedly put on 10-15 lbs since being drafted but he still has a lot of filling out to do. His beautiful, fluid skating coupled with his strong puck handling allows him to control the pace of play when he has possession of the puck. His vision and ability to read plays allows him to deliver pinpoint accurate passes to his teammates. Cholowski is still very raw but displays flashes of brilliance. Continuing to add strength would not only allow him to become a more reliable defender but also help improve his shot velocity. Cholowski will either play for the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season or the WHL’s Prince George Cougars. Jameson Ewasiuk

July 2016 – Cholowski was a steady riser on the draft rankings all season, starting out off most scouts lists, becoming a sleeper pick until he ended up being selected in the first round. Cholowski is a steady and intelligent two-way player. Cholowski can provide fantasy value via his offensive skills and excellent vision and ability to read plays and make effective decisions. Defensively he is reliable with a smart and active stick. He has good mobility and is an effective physical player as well. Cholowski will play the coming season in the NCAA for St. Cloud University where he will need to add some strength, and continue to develop and show he can be effective against stronger competition than the BCHL.  Peter Harling
