Fantasy Summary

Two-way puck-moving defenseman with offensive upside but an injury history

March 2024 – Unfortunately Timmins has once again run into health issues. After getting into 16 games between late November and late January, which included six points from the blueliner, Timmins was struck with a case of mono. This has kept the Thorold, Ontario native out of the lineup for over a month with no clear timeline set for a return. As the trade deadline approaches and Toronto looking to upgrade their right-handed defensemen, Timmins and his 1.1 million cap-hit could potentially be moved. Curtis Rines

June 2023 – After a mid-season trade to Toronto, Timmins filled in as a solid depth piece of the Maple Leafs blueline down the stretch. The 24-year-old had two goals and 14 points in 25 games with Toronto, averaging 15:36 minutes a game. His strong showing was rewarded with a two-year, 1.1 million AAV contract extension through the 2024-25 season. As of right now, there is a strong chance Timmins is in the lineup on opening night, but if more moves are made on the blueline, he will have to battle to stay out of the press box. Curtis Rines

November 2022 – With Toronto’s top three defenseman out with injuries, the Maple Leafs made a deal, acquiring Timmins from Arizona for prospect Curtis Douglas. Timmins has strong ties to the Leafs organization, reuniting with former OHL Sault Ste. Marie teammate Rasmus Sandin and Toronto GM Kyle Dubas. Dubas was still in the Greyhounds front office when Timmins was drafted by the club. His time with the Coyotes was much like his professional career so far, riddled with injuries. Timmins missed most of last year with a knee injury and played just two contests with Arizona at the start of 2022-23 before an upper-body injury. Down with Tucson on a conditioning stint, Arizona wanted him to stay there and play big minutes but feared he would be claimed on waivers, hence the trade to Toronto. An intelligent puck moving defenseman, if he can stay healthy Timmins could be a major addition for Toronto. Keith Duggan

July 2022 – Timmins recovery from knee surgery seems to going along well and all signs right now point to him being ready for the start of 2022-23 season. Timmins unfortunately has been in the news lately as he was part of the 2018 Canadian World Junior Team that recently settled a lawsuit with a woman who says she was assaulted by eight members of that club. Timmins has released a statement saying he is “aware of the allegations” and “was not involved in any way.” He will also “continue to cooperate in any investigations as required.” Keith Duggan

November 2021- After taking a big hit from Florida Panthers defenseman Radko Gudas on an October 25th game, Timmins went down in obvious pain and was helped off the ice. Soon after it was announced he would miss between eight and twelve weeks, which then changed to after successful knee surgery Timmins missing the rest of the season. This isn’t the first-time injuries have hampered Timmins’ career and development, after he missed 18 months dealing with a concussion he sustained in juniors. The 23-year-old went scoreless in six games with the Coyotes, registering nine blocks, seven hits and five shots while averaging 17:45 of ice time. Keith Duggan

July 2021- Timmins has been dealt to the Arizona Coyotes along with a 2022 first-round pick and a 2024 conditional third-round choice for goaltender Darcy Kuemper. This trade is good and bad for Timmins. He leaves a crowded and talented blueline in Colorado joining Arizona, where he’ll be firmly in their top four. While that will be good to see his TOI go up and potential for more points, Arizona is expected to be one of the worst teams in the league for at least a couple years. Still, this trade is a good boost for Timmins fantasy potential. Keith Duggan

May 2021 – Confident play and injuries to his teammates have kept Timmins in the lineup for the majority of the 2020-21 season. An upper-body injury led to a few weeks lost and a brief conditioning stint in the AHL, and an ankle injury troubled him near the conclusion of the regular season, but these are minor hiccups given his history. He finished with 7 points in 31 contests, also contributing 31 SOG, 18 hits, and 22 blocks in that time. He does not look out of place in the NHL, especially on the offensive blueline where his decision-making usually leads to good chances. His talent and development trajectory would normally indicate potential for a jump in all categories next season but his low a TOI of 13 minutes is unlikely to change much until he appears on special teams more often (which is difficult in such a stacked lineup). This may be a case of accepting a delayed return on investment for poolies until he’s on a less talented squad. Hayden Soboleski

January 2021 – Timmins’ play has warranted a continued job in the NHL, so much so that when top prospect Bowen Byram was ready to play the team opted to move out Ian Cole to open a spot (and salary) rather than demote Timmins to the AHL. His ice time is deviating quite a bit, ranging from 8:45 – 17:56, mainly because he doesn’t play on either special team. His fantasy production in mild so far, but close to 1 SOG and 1 block per game with the potential for offense isn’t nothing. Still a better own in long-term leagues than in short-term formats despite his consistent presence in the lineup. Hayden Soboleski

January 2021 – Timmins has made the Avalanche opening night roster, filling in for the injured Erik Johnson. A strong tryout period will be necessary to hold onto this spot once Johnson returns and WHL play resumes (which may force Byram up to the NHL). While he’s in the lineup, he will bring some SOG and points but in limited ice time which will make his totals likely not enticing enough for one-year league consideration. Hayden Soboleski

September 2020 – Being an injury fill-in for the Avalanche leads to a depressing amount of game time. After losing Johnson and being unsatisfied with Connauton, Timmins saw one and a half playoff games with Colorado in the conference semifinals. He saw over 14 minutes in his full game and showed flashes of the confident puck movement that makes him such a promising prospect. The fantasy production wasn’t there yet however, as he didn’t manage any SOG, took two penalties, and overall had at least as many anxious “rookie jitters” moments as he did positive ones. As expected, he needs a more experience in the pros before he’ll be ready for serious minutes in elimination playoff games. Unfortunately, Timmins was forced out of the series with an apparent head injury, which is an immediate red flag for someone who missed an entire season with post-concussion symptoms. He agent indicates he is recovering well, but keep an eye on his readiness come 2020-21 training camp. His top priority should be his health and this quick injury may indicate a slower track to the NHL than hoped. Hayden Soboleski

February 2020 – Timmins cracked the Avs’ lineup out of camp, but it was merely a tryout thanks to the teams’ depth on the back end. The realistic expectation was always a season in the AHL to get his feet back under him after a lost campaign, and that’s been exactly what the doctor ordered. His 19 points in 30 games is an excellent pace for any two-way defenseman, let alone a rookie, and the responsibility given by his coaches seems to be increasing as the season progresses. An unspecified lower-body injury kept him out of the lineup for a month, but has not appeared to impact his game upon return. He is a call-up option for the Avs down the stretch, but his real fantasy value will come in 2020-21, when he will be ready to push for a spot out of camp and hopefully see consistent NHL time. Hayden Soboleski

September 2019 – The Avs’ pre-season tilt against Vegas marked the first competitive game Timmins has played in over a year. Fans and fantasy owners will be happy to know that he looked more than fine – his quick decision-making and fluid movement showed well in his first game back from concussion symptoms. Still without pro experience under his belt, expect some AHL seasoning to get his instincts back into prime form, as he did provide some tough giveaways and skate himself into bad spots on occasion. Hayden Soboleski

April 2019 – Timmins has been travelling with the Avalanche, and commentator Ray Ferraro dropped a nugget on-air that he is actually ready to return should the team need him. He still has not played a single game this season so he there’s a chance he will need to get his feet back under him with some AHL time in the fall before jumping straight to the NHL like we anticipated last year. Hayden Soboleski

February 2019 – Timmins has begun practicing with the AHL Eagles, but still hasn’t suited up for any game action. Still no official timetable for his return but he appears to be inching nearer. Hayden Soboleski

November 2018 – Timmins has begun skating for the first time since suffering a concussion earlier this year. There is still no timeline for his return, as this is clearly a bad case. Hayden Soboleski

October 2018 – Recovery from his concussion is taking longer than the team hoped for Timmins, and he has been sent home rather than continuing to travel with the team. Full recovery from a concussion is possible and there’s no reason to expect otherwise, but from a fantasy perspective, missing big chunk of this season is a major setback, and is likely going to mean longer precautionary AHL seasoning rather than the quick jump to the NHL that was possible. Hayden Soboleski

September 2018 – Timmins is unable to participate in the Avs/Ducks/Knights rookie tournament due to lingering concussion symptoms maintained from the end of 2017-18. This is bad news, but there’s nothing anyone can do other than be patient and hope he doesn’t lose too much of a step when he can return. Hayden Soboleski

June 2018 – Timmins’ was a clutch playoff performer during the Soo’s long playoff run, cementing himself as a prime big-minute defender. Unfortunatey he has been unable to participate in Avs development camp due to a minor ankle injury and lingering concussion symptoms, which is never a good sign. Fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery in time for the Training Camp, but we know how unpredictable concussion timelines are. Hayden Soboleski

March 2018 – In a season where his stock has been skyrocketing, Timmins has been voted the best defensive-defenceman in the OHL by coaches. Even with this defensive prowess, he is managing to score at over a point-per-game pace. Timmins has quickly jumped up the prospect depth chart in Colorado and could be seeing NHL ice time within the next season or two. He puts up fantasy-worthy SOG and PIM as well, so keep an eye on him as he competes for a spot next season. Hayden Soboleski

January 2018 – Timmins has won gold with Team Canada at the WJC and was named one of the top-three players of the tournament. His play in his own end, his ability to rush the puck, and his offensive talent highlighted by his assist on the go-ahead-goal for the gold medal have cemented him as a top-tier prospect. Hayden Soboleski December 2017 – Timmins has survived the cuts and made Team Canada for the WJC – he projects as the third-pairing right defenceman. The Greyhounds’ alternate captain is having his strongest year yet in the OHL and being rewarded with 34 points in 28 games so far. Hayden Soboleski

October 2017 – Timmins has been named to the Team OHL roster for the upcoming CIBC Canada Russia series. This comes after starting the season with eight assists in ten games, whih is on par with his production last year. His overall game is rounding out very well and he could be a key piece in any situation on the OHL blueline. Hayden Soboleski

September 2017 – Timmins lasted longer than expected in Avs camp thanks to consistent play at both eds of the ice, but has been returned to the OHL. He will continue to grow as an all-around smooth-skating d-man, and he showed us that he will fight for an NHL spot as early as next year. Hayden Soboleski

June 2017 – The Avalanche have selected Conor Timmins in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft as they continue to fill out the right-hand-defenceman slots in the prospect depth chart. The offensively-gifted Timmins lit up the OHL this year for 61 points in 67 games (a 48 point increase form the year before) and ran the point on the powerplay. He also added 69 PIM to his fantasy stat sheet, which adds even more value in some leagues. Timmins is close to ready for pro physicalilty, and moves the puck like d-men have to these days, but expect some seasoning before any NHL looks. Hayden Soboleski
