Fantasy Summary

Goal-scoring and playmaking middle-six forward

August 2020 – Ferguson had another outstanding ECHL campaign, leading the Growlers with 63 points in 57 games. However, without a clear path up the ladder in sight, he has signed an SHL contract for 2020-21. Turning 26 this year, he is no longer a prospect asset in the system, but if he can replicate his ECHL numbers in a higher-tier professional next year, getting a training camp invite down the road wouldn’t be out of the question. Ferguson should not be on your fantasy radar. Hayden Soboleski

October 2019 – Ferguson has been assigned to the Growlers once again for the 2019-20 campaign. He is likely an AHL-caliber player given his success there last season, but the Marlies depth chart is full and the organization likes to keep their ECHL affiliate competitive. Now 25, he’s unlikely to every carry NHL fantasy-relevance, but becoming an AHL scorer would not be a surprise. Hayden Soboleski

June 2019 – Credit where it is due, Ferguson made the best of a tough situation. After turning pro at the tail end of 2018, he spent nearly the entire 2018-19 campaign in the ECHL. His demotion from the AHL was a disappointment, but at the end of the day there were a plethora of middle-six options to compete against. He took it in stride however, and finished the season with 58 points (30 goals) in 49 games. On top of that, he put up 24 points in 22 contests on his way to winning the Kelly Cup with the Growlers. His determination and production has certainly earned him another crack at the AHL lineup this fall. Hayden Soboleski

February 2019 – Ferguson has spent the 2018-19 campaign in the ECHL, where the rookie pro has had no problem staying above the point-per-game mark. He doesn’t appear to be more than a depth option for a Marlies playoff run at the moment, but he should get the chance to earn an AHL spot next year. Hayden Soboleski

March 2018 – Ferguson has been signed to a PTO with the Marlies. He has been immediately inserted into the lineup having now played two games with one assist. He has not looked out of place playing top minutes with the Marlies. How well he plays through the rest of the season and the playoffs will help the Leafs decide if they will use one of their scarce contracts to offer Ferguson an NHL entry level contract.

Ferguson was never drafted and made a name for himself playing for Robert Morris University.  He was the all-time highest scorer with Robert Morris. In the four years he played 152 games with 66 goals and 101 assists for 167 points, averaging 1.10 points per game for his career. Ferguson leaves College as the NCAA’s active career leading scorer. He is very good in the faceoff circle with 598 faceoff wins and .573 faceoff win percentage. Ferguson is an elite goal scorer with potential to develop into a top nine NHL player one day, but it will take a year or two for Ferguson to develop a pro game.
