Tomas Mrsic

September 2026 – A season of adapting for Mrsic. It’s been a struggle for him to adapt to no longer being one of the faster skaters on the ice, now being more average in the NCAA. His game is markedly different in the NCAA than in the WHL, and now his effort in defense and on the forecheck is a standout. It happens that some players need whole seasons to adjust, and for Mrsic, we need to see his identity as a sniper with some creativity and energy translate to the NCAA this coming season. It’s good to see that he has added effort to the defensive side, but his offensive toolkit is his path to the NHL, and that needs to expand in the NCAA if there is going to be an NHL future for Mrsic. For now, I’d treat Mrsic as a medium-to-high-risk asset with medium reward, as his future is either making it in a middle-six support sniper role or likely not at all. Markus Kalmar.

June 2025 – Mrsic has committed to Colorado College for the 2025-26 season. What would have been his second-to-last year of WHL eligibility, Mrsic has chosen to take the NCAA route to further his development before aiming to turn pro in the future.

Mrsic played a top-line role in the 2024-25 season with the Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders after being acquired in a trade from the Medicine Hat Tigers, involving Minnesota Wild prospect Ryder Ritchie. He led the Raiders in scoring with 90 points (33 goals and 57 assists) in 65 regular-season games and was expected to be a key offensive contributor for Prince Albert in 2025-26. A new challenge awaits at Colorado College; this decision should not hinder his future outlook and could make him more pro-ready when he makes that leap. Mark Henry

May 2025 – Mrsic is a burner, and spending 2024–25 on a new team showed what he can do when trusted as the guy. His speed separates him from his competition, especially north-south, while his IQ and hands never fall too far behind. He has the tools to be an effective complementary top-six player in the NHL. April 2024 – Tomas Mrsic was hidden in the background early in the season, but he had a strong run after Cayden Lindstrom’s injury. Mrsic has little to offer defensively but is well-rounded offensively, functioning as a complementary spark-plug. His speed and routes make him an effective transition target. He is particularly adept at arriving as a trailer to make smart passes into the middle of the ice or to post up for high-quality one-timers. Luke Sweeney
