Fantasy Summary
The knock on him to date has been that he does not use his size enough and plays on the perimeter. Mix in average skating and Halliday has relied on his above-average playmaking abilities to have the success he has had so far.
Observations
June 2026 – Halliday signed a two-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators in May 2026. His deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $1.07M and runs through the 2027-28 season. Chris Babos
April 2026- Stephen Halliday has found himself taking regular shifts at the NHL level, playing in 28 games and potting four goals and seven assists while playing just over eight minutes a night. Despite the limited time on ice, Halliday interestingly finds himself spending a quarter of that measure- 1:53 a game- on the power play.
At the AHL level, he has played 29 games, and has supplied two goals and 27 assists, with 16 of those being primary helpers. He excels on the powerplay in the minors as well with 15 points coming with the man advantage.
Currently, Halliday is more of a minors eligible flex play in leagues, as his time on ice doesn’t give him the opportunity to put up many countable stats- he currently hits and shoots roughly once per game- but he is a worthwhile stash now where his minors eligibility gives him value. If he can start to work his way into more even strength time on ice, or strike gold with his powerplay deployment, his value will increase.
Hold, stash for free, and look to potentially cash in in the offseason if you can’t roster him on your pro roster currently, as his assist-heavy style and uncertain role limit his upside currently. Alex Wyatt
August 2025 – While not overly physical, he’s shown he can handle the physicality of the pro game, using his large frame and smooth hands to shield the puck and evade the defenseman along the boards. His play-making ability and solid hockey IQ have been his leading attributes this season. He will need to improve in the skating department; he gets around well enough at the AHL level, but his speed is lacking and may be the one thing holding him back. Andrew Barrett
April 2023 – Ohio State lost to the eventual Frozen Four champions Quinnipiac this year, but it’s hard to imagine Halliday having a better freshmen college season. He had 41 points in 40 games, leading the Buckeyes, while only seven were on the power play. The Buckeyes lost a few key players at the end of 2022-2023, so Halliday should be given more responsibility in 2023-2024 on a possibly weaker team. Grant Campbell
August 2022 – Halliday went undrafted twice before Ottawa took him this year. He broke the all-time USHL Tier I Regular season scoring record last season and will play with Ohio State in 2022-2023. Look for him to hit the ground running, as he should be allowed to succeed there. Grant Campbell
