A sound southpaw goaltender with a solid glove and reflexes and a tendency to over-commit. He has struggled with health and looks to be more of a KHL player than an NHL player. However, if he can tie things together, he could be a solid backup in the NHL.

June 2025 – Chechelev has had an interesting career since being drafted by Calgary back in 2020. From 2021-2023, Chechelev played in North America, primarily in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush. His numbers left a lot to be desired and indicated a career spent in the minors or Europe. Since heading back to Russia in 2023, Chechelev has struggled to stay healthy, playing in only 17 games over the past two years. He will look to have a healthy campaign next year to reestablish his NHL hopes and prove he still has what the Flames saw five years ago when they drafted him. James Connelly
