Rudy Guimond

July 2025 – After being drafted by Detroit in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Guimond completed one-and-a-half seasons in the USHL for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, where his save percentage was consistently below .900 before moving over to the QMJHL with the eventual champion Moncton Wildcats, where he saw dramatically different results. He posted a record of 16-0-0 with a goals against average below 2.00 and a .940 save percentage. In the playoffs, he still went 8-1-0 and posted solid numbers all around. While the QMJHL is typically viewed as the lesser league below the OHL and WHL, his performance as a tandem goalie on a good team gives him fantasy relevance in deeper dynasty leagues. He had the opportunity to attend Yale in the fall, but de-committed and is poised to get the lion’s share of the starts in Moncton next year. Moncton’s GM Taylor MacDougall was quoted when asked about Guimond’s impact, stating, “He was an integral part of our group’s success last season and now he has the opportunity to establish himself as one of the most impactful goaltenders in the CHL. Rudy has showcased elite composure and consistency.” The Red Wings have stockpiled goalie prospects in recent years, but Guimond is a name to keep an eye out for moving forward. Jeff Grybel
