Gabe Perreault

January 2024 – Perreault, the Rangers’ first round pick in 2023, has been tearing it up in the NCAA this year, his Freshman season with the Boston College Eagles. Many viewed Perreault as a potential steal for the Rangers organization after he fell to the team at pick number 23 overall, due to his elite playmaking ability. Thus far with the Eagles this year, he has posted nine goals and 27 assists for 36 points in only 23 games played, a tremendous scoring pace, especially for a Freshman. Helping Team USA to a Gold Medal in the recently- concluded U20 World Championships, the lefty shot posted 10 points in seven games played. Perreault, the son of former NHL player Yanic Perreault, is certainly turning lots of heads this year, while likely causing some regret among some of the NHL general managers while passed on him at last Summer’s draft. June 2023 – Perreault has been selected 23rd overall by the New York Rangers in the 2023 NHL Draft. Curtis Rines

April 2023 – Perreault is having a fantastic sophomore season with the NTDP as he is the highest scorer on the team with 110 points in 55 games, good for a perfect two points per game average. This is an incredible increase in production from last season and the chemistry he has shown with fellow Boston College commits Will Smith and Ryan Leonard has been remarkable. Perreault’s game is built with a strong foundation of forechecking and work ethic, and he layers that with high-level skill and speed to make himself a real pain in the side of the opposition. He is an intelligent player who makes quick, and more importantly smart, decisions with the puck and quickly moves into support areas to make himself an option again. He has the puck skills and confidence to take his man in a 1 v 1 situation and once he is able to get past his defender the offensive zone opens up for him and he gets to showcase his playmaking ability. He has great accuracy and zip on his passes and does a nice job hitting tight windows and leading his teammates into space. He remains a pass-first player but shows good killer instincts around the net and has quick hands to get his shot off and has improved his goal-scoring ability. Alexander Annun

October 2022 – Now in his second season with the U.S. National Development Team Program, Gabe Perreault is looking to build upon a solid 2021-22 season, where he posted 50 points in 51 games as he paced the U17 team. After being the brightest spot in a mostly disappointing season for an immensely talented team last year, Perreault will look to take his game to the next level and hope it can translate into more team success at the U18 level.

Perreault is a very fun player to watch due in large part to his versatility and ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. His playing style is centered around a high work ethic and aggressive forecheck that is capable of pinning the puck carrier in their own zone and forcing errant passes for the supporting checker to pounce on. He put on nearly twenty pounds since last year, and it allows him to be more successful in his physical game as he looks to get into contested areas and fight for space to set up in the slot, though there is still room for improvement in that department. Not much of a goalscorer, he puts himself around the net front and is able to intelligently capitalize on rebounds or receive looks at the back post from his teammates after slipping away from his man. Perreault shines as a playmaker, and much of that can be attributed to him being keenly aware of the open space on the ice and occupying it as his distribution center. He has quick hands in tight that allow him to stick handle out of pressure and lay the puck off to his other forwards to keep the play flowing. Perreault’s play style is easy to mesh with, and as a result, he finds success with any number of line combinations because his game remains the same, and he is a very good passer on top of being an intelligent thinker on the ice. Seeing heavy usage thus far, it is clear Perreault has earned the trust of his coaches and is someone who should be able to find continued success as he is leaned upon to lead this U18 team, having already racked up 23 points in 12 games this season. Alexander Annun
