August 2024 – After showing improvement in the first half of the season for Duluth, Spicer’s year came to an abrupt end when he was declared academically ineligible for the rest of the season. He participated in this year’s Bruins’ Development Camp, however a week after, Spicer stated that he is putting a pause to his hockey career ‘for the foreseeable future’, stating: “I need to figure out some personal and mental stuff first. Right now I need to take a step away and figure a couple things out.” If Spicer eventually starts playing again, it is unsure where and his fantasy value has taken a significant hit. Anthony Vincens

April 2023 – Spicer had a disappointing offensive season, scoring just three goals and three assists in his Freshman season at Minnesota-Duluth. These numbers are not a cause for concern yet, as Spicer completed the season as an 18-year-old, making him one of the youngest players in college hockey. Spicer will need to develop his offensive game, as he was always more of a two-way-forward, focusing more on his defensive game. Spicer projects more as a middle-six forward at the next level and could be a solid complimentary piece with some skilled players. If Spicer eventually manages to make it to that level, he could increase his offensive production, but his fantasy ceiling still isn’t very high. Nate Duffett

July 2022 – Spicer has been selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins. Nick Richard

May 2022 – Spicer had a solid season on a star-studded NTDP squad, tallying 20 goals and 19 assists through 58 games while playing a middle-six role for most of the season. He would add five points through six games at the U18 World Championships as he helped Team USA finish with a silver medal. He is set to begin his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the fall of 2022.

Spicer plays an energetic, yet responsible two-way game. Despite his small stature, he competes hard and gets into the dirty areas around the opposing net. He shows good vision with the ability to make quick decisions in the offensive zone and though he may not be the flashiest playmaker, he consistently makes the smart read to string plays together and sustain possessions for his team. He will probably never be the main offensive driver on his line but he has the hockey IQ to be a strong complementary piece alongside skilled players. Away from the puck, Spicer shows a strong awareness of his defensive responsibilities and he has shown that he can frustrate the opposition with his speed and effort level. He gets into passing lanes, is a willing shot blocker, and he supports his defencemen in puck battles down low. Though his offensive upside may be limited, there is enough there when you combine it with his tenacity and well-rounded game that he should draw interest in the middle rounds of the 2022 NHL Draft. Nick Richard
