Christian Kyrou

July 2026 – After not being tendered a qualifying offer by the Flyers, Kyrou signed a one year pact with the Ottawa Senators. Kyrou was among a number of formerly high-valued prospects who have yet to stick in the NHL signed on July 1st, and one can imagine Ottawa’s plan to gather a number of prospects who are further along in their development to help boost their AHL squad could net one or two who surprise and earn an NHL gig. Kyrou could still find NHL time on the Senator’s blueline, and his 10 goals and 24 assists in 55 games with Lehigh Valley of the AHL shows he has offensive talent. He would be hard to roster in more shallow leagues, as the opportunity may not end up developing, but he is a low risk stash in deeper leagues. Alex Wyatt

November 2025 – Christian Kyrou was swapped for Samu Tuomaala, and is now a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. Since linking up with the Leghigh Valley Phantoms- Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate- he has done his best to spurn the Dallas organization for giving up on him. He opened his tenure with the Phantoms by going on an eight point, five game point streak (one goal and seven assists), and is featuring on their powerplay (three power play assists).

Early results show that the move was a clear positive for Kyrou, though it remains to be seen if he is any clearer to the NHL as a result. He is only rostered in the single digits on Fantrax, and if one had room to stash him in the minors, it would be a decent wait-and-see move to scoop him up and watch his progress with an expended role. Alex Wyatt

June 2025 – Kyrou saw 36 games in his AHL sophomore season, scoring four goals and adding 11 assists. Notably, he also took only a single minor penalty during that time frame. Kyrou earned an NHL call-up during February, but didn’t end up dressing in a game. Kyrou hasn’t shown a great deal of offense thus far in his 93 AHL games. He did however manage nine of those 15 points on the powerplay, showing that he is earning and receiving the deployment opportunity in Texas.

Kyrou will only turn 22 this fall, and has plenty of development road ahead of him. He could begin earning himself some NHL time in the coming seasons, though at present doesn’t appear poised to usurp Thomas Harley or Miro Heiskanen from their roles. Fantasy investors will need to be patient and keep an eye on the young blue-liner for signs of progression next season. Alex Wyatt

March 2023 – The 19-year-old defenseman has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars. Kyrou has been well over a point-per-game player thus far this season. He is currently second in assists (52), third in points (70), and fifth in goals (18) for defensemen in the OHL. Taylor Newby

August 2022 – With their 50^th overall selection in the 2022 draft, Dallas hopes to have struck gold again with Christian Kyrou. Selecting both Jason Robertson and Logan Stankoven in the second round, Dallas has had significant success in that section of the draft lately, and Kyrou is a prime candidate to exceed his draft slot. Although he is slightly undersized, Kyrou is a mobile and creative defender, and shows similar qualities to his older brother Jordan. This craftiness shot him up draft boards, with D-1 projections having him undrafted. In Erie, Kyrou was exceptional, with 60 points in 68 games, and he is poised to grow even further with the upcoming campaign. Kyrou projects as a Swiss army knife type of player, who can drive play with the man advantage, while being responsible enough defensively to have an impact on the back-check. Expect Kyrou to take advantage of his mobility in the juniors for the next two seasons before making his jump to the pros. Aaron Itovitch

May 2022 – Although Kyrou is the oldest ranked prospect in the 2022 NHL Draft, he’s got a lot of runway to grow his game and make his already-promising offensive involvement even more effective. His 18 goals and 42 assists in 68 games for the Erie Otters place him third on the entire team in scoring. He finished second among all OHL draft-eligible blue-liners behind Pavel Mintyukov for points, and first for goals.

Kyrou’s aggressive shooting mindset doesn’t come at the detriment of his teammates; when he feels that there’s a better passing option available or an opportunity to give and go, he takes it. His skating is fluid, his execution speed and accuracy are refined, and he shows some great flashes of defensive ability as well. His breakout game is intelligent and efficient as well, hinting at a high hockey IQ. The only major knock on his game is that he can get caught up-ice and be left scrambling back to prevent an odd-man rush. If he can refine that element of his game, there’s a slim chance he ends up as a top-pair guy, and a realistic chance of him being a regular top-four defenseman. Hadi Kalakeche
