Danila Klimovich

April 2024 – After a promising season last year in the AHL, Klimovich returned this season with Abbotsford, but things took a turn for the worse. He was frequently sidelined due to injuries and spent much of the season as a healthy scratch, managing to participate in only 24 games, mostly on the fourth line. To label this as a major disappointment following his decent performance last season would be an understatement. The issue with Klimovich’s season wasn’t necessarily his impact on the ice. Looking at his goal event statistics, he was still present for seven of his team’s goals compared to only two for the opponent, boasting a 77% goals-for ratio. However, these stats also indicate that not much happened for either team when he was on the ice. Given the depth of the Canucks’ forward group, it’s now clear that Klimovich has a long journey ahead if he hopes to make a significant impact in the NHL. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte

March 2023 – Following a challenging introduction to the pro ranks last season, Klimovich appears to have found his footing in the AHL during the 2022-23 season. Now a 20-year-old in his second full season, the skilled shooter has begun to develop his overall game by placing a greater emphasis on his responsibilities away from the puck. He appears more self-assured and has learned to control – or at least tame – his emotions. However, there is still room for improvement, and with even further utilization, next year should serve as an even greater indicator of where his overall potential projects. Of course, he maintains his reputation as a sharpshooter, and his potential to play middle-six NHL minutes remains relevant as a result. There may be opportunities for short auditions with the big club next season, but it is likely that he will require more time to incubate as the Canucks organization continues to support his growth. March 2022 – As a first-year pro, Klimovich’s AHL rookie campaign has seen stretches of both highs and lows. While his transition has lacked overall consistency, it’s clear that his offensive punch is not to be undervalued. Despite clicking at an underwhelming 0.30 pace over 40 games, both his shot and slick hands showcase clear pro-ready potential. Furthermore, despite relatively low utilization, the 19-year-old is producing underlying offensive production at an impressive rate – it is just a matter of time before he reaps those benefits. Considering the level of competition he has grown accustomed to in past seasons, learning curves and speed bumps are an expected piece to his early (pro) development. Expect an increased role for his 2022-23 sophomore campaign, which should be a much more telling indication of where his development is trending. Dave Hall

July 2021 – Just days following his second-round selection, Klomovich has officially signed his ELC and will cross the pond to take part in Canucks’ training camp. While the more likely outcome has him playing his inaugural year in Abbotsford, you can expect the club to be very hands-on with his development. July 2021 – The Canucks have selected Danila Klimovich with the 41st pick in the 2021 entry-draft. The Belarus native is a creative goal-scorer, who carries a deadly release and swift skating ability. He plays the game with bite and shows a strong competitive nature. At times, too much competitiveness. While he is currently in Russia auditioning for his first KHL stint, initial reports indicate that him crossing the pond to join the club for training camp.
