Zachary Bolduc

February 2024 – After being called up by the Blues on February 20th, Bolduc played in his first NHL game against his former QMJHL coach, Patrick Roy. In 9:57 of ice time, Bolduc had somewhat of a quiet debut, managing only one shot on goal. Despite the team’s 4-0 win, his expected goals for percentage was a disappointing 18%. However, despite this incredibly small sample size in his first NHL game, there will surely be plenty of time for Bolduc to prove his value to the Blues. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte

December 2023 – For a player in his first season in the AHL, Bolduc has been great. In 22 games, he has four goals and six assists for 10 points. The month of November has been particularly good for him, with seven points in 11 games. The shoot-first mentality forward has been maintaining this trend in the AHL with an average of 2.14 shots per game. If he continues at this pace, we could see him in the NHL earlier than we anticipated. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte

May 2023 – Last season, the Quebec Remparts won the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, and Zachary Bolduc had an important role on the team. During the season, Bolduc finished fourth in points and fifth in goals in the QMJHL. Since his transition to the wing in the 2021-2022 season, Bolduc more than doubled his shots on goal and was able to find more consistency in his play. Even though he was not the main contributor on the team during the playoffs, he helped the team in other ways, mainly with his physicality and his defensive play. He was also a key factor in the most important game, scoring two points in a 6-5 win over Halifax to secure the championship. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte  

June 2022 – The Blues 2021 first-round pick scored 55 goals and 44 assists for 99 points with the Quebec Remparts this year, showing why the Blues took him so high. This put him fourth in U-19 scoring in the Q and first in goals. In the playoffs, he continued to produce, scoring at a point-per-game pace in the 12 games, he played with eight goals and four assists.  Next year Bolduc likely returns to the Remparts in pursuit of the Presidents Cup. October 2021 – After being traded from the Rimouski Oceanic to the Quebec Remparts over the summer, Zachary Bolduc has started off well with his new team. He’s playing regularly on the top line flanking Theo Rochette on the left wing, logging big minutes for the Remparts. On special teams, he plays both PP and PK time where he looks to be making a big impact there as well. So far in only seven games, he has three goals and six assists for nine points. If his and the team’s hot start keeps up, he will most certainly play a key role in what looks to be a President Cup calibre Quebec Remparts club. Gordon Munro

July 2021 – Bolduc was selected in the first round, 17th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2021 NHL Draft. Nick Richard

March 2021 – Bolduc had an impressive rookie QMJHL season on a strong Rimouski team in 2019-2020, racking up 30 goals and 22 assists in 55 games. With multiple league stoppages due to pandemic restrictions, Bolduc’s draft season has been a bit of a rollercoaster but through it all, he has led the charge for the Oceanic with 25 points in just 23 games. Bolduc has struggled with consistency and can sometimes fade into the background but when he is at his best, he impacts the game in multiple ways. He is a smooth skater, employing an efficient stance and powerful strides to cover a lot of ice in a short time. He plays a strong transition game on both sides of the puck, able to weave through the neutral zone to create zone entries and he tracks well on the backcheck to lift pucks and get into passing lanes. Bolduc is an intelligent player who makes good reads, with and without the puck, and he works hard to get it back when he doesn’t have it. Using his solid frame and good hands, he is effective along the boards in contested puck situations and can make quick plays pulling the puck out of traffic along the wall. He has a heavy shot that he can get off quickly and accurately to beat goaltenders cleanly but can score from in tight as well, using his body to box out defenders and get to loose pucks in front. When Bolduc brings his ‘A’ game, he looks like a player that has all the makings of a play-driving, two-way center at the NHL level but questions about his consistency persist. Nick Richard
