April 2023 – Bychkov is beginning to become a forgotten prospect in Russia, struggling his way through another season in the KHL with Lokomotiv. In 17 games, Bychkov only managed two assists before being demoted to the VHL, where he played only 11 games, registering one assist. The Bruins have a lot of defensive depth in front of Bychkov on the depth chart, and a demotion to the second league in Russia doesn’t bode well for his chances of making his way over to North America anytime soon. Bychkov still hasn’t signed his entry-level contract with the Bruins, and it’s a big possibility that the Bruins will allow him to become a free agent at some point. Nate Duffett

July 2021 – Bychkov spent time in two of Russia’s development leagues this year, playing the majority of his games in the second-tier VHL. He received a larger role with the pro club Buran than he did during his time in the MHL junior league, which will certainly be a benefit as he looks to establish his NHL potential. Bychkov finished with four total points in 25 games for Buran, playing an average of just under 20 minutes a night. He also chipped in 31 PIM for his pro club, and will likely spend a few more seasons developing in Russia before making the jump to North America. Chris Mazza

January 2021 – Bychkov is a mobile defenseman who thrives with the puck on his stick and when carrying it up ice. He plays an aggressive style that can leave him vulnerable to defensive breakdowns but certainly has the potential to play in the NHL one day. He was one of just two Bruins prospects to represent the team at this year’s World Juniors, starting in a depth role for team Russia and slowly earning more ice time as the tournament went along. He finished with three points (all assists) and six shots through seven games, and will now return to his top pairing role in the VHL where he will look to continue his development. Chris Mazza
