July 2023 – Ciccolini completed his fourth season with the Michigan University Wolverines, posting 11 points in 31 games. The 22-year-old wrapped up an underwhelming career at Michigan, topping out at 12 points in 24 games during the 2020-21 season. The righty will suit up for Clarkson University in 2023-24, his last opportunity to try to earn the Rangers organization’s attention. His signing rights with New York expire on August 1st, 2024. At this point, Ciccolini’s potential of earning himself an entry level contract are looking very grim. Brendan Ferry
July 2022 – Ciccolini is entering his fourth season with the University of Michigan, after appearing in only four games with the Wolverines during the 2021-2022 season after suffering a season-ending injury early on in his Junior season. Ciccolini has not been heavily featured during his tenure at Michigan, as he has been on teams with high-end talent, including several players who were first-round NHL draft picks. The winger’s rights are held by the Rangers until August 15, 2023, so this will be his last opportunity to earn an NHL contract, seemingly a bit unlikely at this point. A long-shot pick when drafted, the former seventh-round draft pick, number 205 overall (same as Henrik Lundqvist), who knew Gordie Howe as a child and visited with him on at least a few occasions, Ciccolini certainly had an intriguing storyline behind him. We will soon find out if he shows enough this upcoming season to secure a pro contract. Brendan Ferry
December 2020 – After being selected by the Rangers from the OJHL in the final round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Eric Ciccolini played his first full season with the University of Michigan Wolverines. As a freshman, Ciccolini’s unproductive season was overshadowed by John Beecher and Cam York, while this year he could be the beneficiary of a rising tide lifting all boats. The Wolverines find themselves stacked with top prospects such as Thomas Bordeleau, Kent Johnson, Brendan Brisson and Matthew Berniers, and while the team will undoubtedly find success this season, Ciccolini will have to find a new level of engagement in order to keep pace on the talented squad. His development trajectory should be considered very long term. Brayden Olafson
