Nicholas Porco

June 2019 – The Dallas Stars have selected Saginaw Spirit left winger Porco in the fifth round, 142nd overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Porco posted 20 goals and 16 assists in 67 games for the Spirit. Also, in the Spirits deep playoff run, he also posted seven points in 16 games. The former fourth overall pick in the Bantam Draft has played limited minutes on a strong Saginaw team over the past two seasons. However, when he got ice time, he truly showed why the Stars took a gamble on him with their third pick in the draft. He is a powerful skater who is difficult to get off of the puck once he gets up to speed. His acceleration is not the strongest but once he gets moving, he is very difficult to get off of the puck. Many of his goals came from around the net where he is a very good finisher in tight. He has good hands in front of the net and can be counted on to finish off any chances in close. He also has a quick release which he does not hesitate to use to beat the goaltender. If Porco continues to develop, then he may start producing more for the Spirit. Potential fantasy owners should watch his development in his final two OHL seasons as he has the potential tools to be an effective middle of the lineup scorer. Brandon Floyd
