Jan 2020 – Yelesin was recalled again. He’s a defensive-minded defenseman who certainly looks to let go of a slapshot when he can. He also keeps players honest as they approach zone entries. He isn’t afraid to step up when he anticipates it. It is great for him to walk around and potentially see a game or two but he isn’ replacing any of the regular guys. – Joel Henderson
Dec 2019 – In his five-game stint with Calgary, he was healthy scratched for the entirety of it. A player returning from injury is the reason that he is being sent back down to Stockton. – Joel Henderson
Nov 2019 – Due to injured and inconsistent play, the Flames have called up Yelesin. So far in 2019-20, he has two points (one goal and one assist) in 15 games played. He does not bring much to the fantasy side of things except for blocks and hits. Expect him to get limited action. – Joel Henderson
June 2019 – The 23 year old right-shot D elects to sign a two-year ELC deal with Calgary. With over 100 KHL under his belt and an All-Star game nod, he brings pro hockey experience and a little bit of undersized grit to the table. He plays a real simple game as far as fantasy comes into play. He makes short quick passes, he defends well, and he has a cannon of a slap shot. The Calgary Flames have only drafted one D in the last number of years (Valimaki) so it makes sense to try and find guys who can come in and compete.
You shouldn’t expect too long of an adjustment period to the North American physical style of play since that is what Yelesin does so well. He won’t bring high numbers from the backend if he is shoring up a third pairing, but you could expect some hits and blocks along with chipping in. Could be a sneaky add for roto leagues if he fits well. – Joel Henderson
