June 2019 – After going undrafted in the 2018 Draft, Shalagin was drafted in the Seventh Round by the Tampa Bay Lightning with the 198th Overall pick in the 2019 Draft. In 2018-2019, Shalagin broke the single-season goals record in the MHL, with an unprecedented total of 48 goals in 43 games played for MHK Spartak Moskva. Shalagin still carries some of the same concerns that led to his undrafted status a year ago, most notably his below average skating ability, however, Shalagin is worth the bet on his puck skills, shot, and size. Shalagin generates chances with his puck skills, as his reach allows him to shield the puck on defenders while also possessing the ability to make flashy plays with his hands in tight. Owns an excellent shot and can pick corners on netminders from distance when given time to tee up, and will need to work on playing the game with more pace in order to make it at the next level.
