Quinn Schmiemann

May 2023 – Schmiemann was not qualified by Tampa and became a free agent signing an AHL deal with Abbotsford for 2023-2024. He scored six points in 31 games and was demoted to the ECHL for six games. The demotion only came because there is an abundance of defensemen at that level in the Canucks system. Pat Quinn

June 2020 – Schmiemann has a solid 2019-20 campaign, as he improved his overall scoring pace from a year ago with five goals and 37 points in 60 games for the Kamloops Blazers. In addition to an increase in production, Schmiemann was also a very strong defensive player for Kamloops and showed more willingness to engage physically compared to a year ago. Offensive upside remains the question mark for Schmiemann but he still has a strong base of solid two-way acumen and owns reasonable projection as a bottom pair NHL defenseman. Brandon Holmes

June 2019 – Schmiemann was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning at 182nd overall. Schmiemann is a two-way blueliner that posted a respectable five goals and 28 points in 58 games played for the Kamloops Blazers in 2018-2019. Schmiemann defends well and can control his gaps well to help break up zone entries, and can transition the puck reasonably well with a good first pass and decent mobility. Lacks high-end puck skills and offensive zone vision, which limits his offensive ceiling, however, he does own a surprisingly good shot with good velocity and accuracy. Schmiemann will need to develop more mobility or skill in his game to project higher in an NHL lineup but may carry upside as a depth NHL defenseman. Brandon Holmes
