Tyler Tucker

April 2024 – If last seasonpoor performance could have been partially attributed to bad luck, this season it is not the case. In the 23 games Tucker played with the Blues, he has a PDO of 106 and started 68% of his shifts in the opponents zone. When you add those factors, along with the fact that he had sheltered minutes, averaging only 12 minutes per game, Tucker’s stats should not look this awful from an advanced stats perspective. Tucker finished with the second-worst expected goals for percentage (xGF%) of any Blues defenseman, a miserable 39%, and his possession metrics were not any better with a 41% Corsi for. June 2023 – Last season, Tucker split his time between the Blues and the Thunderbirds. In the NHL, Tucker was an average physical defenseman for his team. In his 26 games played, he had 4 points, this includes 3 secondary assists, and an expected goal of 47%. This is less than desired for an NHL player, but you must consider Tucker’s awful luck. With a PDO of 957, and an expected goal against (xGA) of 14.27, six fewer than what ended up his goal against. Tucker’s stats would have been much better with a better goalie performance. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte 

June 2022 – The big bruising defenceman had a solid year for the Springfield Thunderbirds this season. In 72 games he scored three goals and 15 assists for 18 points, while also collecting 114 penalty minutes. He’s followed this up with a goal and an assist in 10 games and of course, 18 penalty minutes so far in this year’s playoffs. The Thunderbirds’ alternate captain does what you’d expect from someone with his large frame and doesn’t shy away from dropping the gloves either. Going forward, I’d like to see him continue to develop his offensive game a little more in order to make himself more versatile and ready for a call-up if needed. However, he does what he does well and could fit a niche role if the Blues ever need to recall a big body for their backend. Gordon Munro

November 2020 – After splitting the season between the Barrie Colts and the Flint Firebirds, Tucker capped off a successful campaign in the OHL, scoring 56 points (17 goals and 39 assists) in 55 games, 21 of which came on the power play. His point total ranked him eighth among defensemen in the league, while his 87 penalty minutes ranked him second. This earned the 6-1 defenseman a two-way entry-level contract in March; giving him a chance to take his game to the professional level next year. Lou Farah

September 2019 – Tucker comes into this year looking to build off the best season of his OHL career. He has had a hot start recording four assists in his first three games. He is a near-lock to spend the entire season on the Colts’ top pairing and is likely to get substantial power play time as well. The hope, for him as well as the Colts is that mega-rookie Brandt Clarke will play his way onto the top pairing alongside Tucker at some point this season. If that comes to fruition expect Tucker’s production to continue to improve. Sam Stern

March 2019 – Tucker had a career season in the OHL. Leading into this season, Tucker had always shown some offensive promise, but hadn’t quite put it all together. This season, however, he had no such issues. He set career highs in goals (13), assists (45) and points (57) over 66 games. Armed with an absolute howitzer of a shot and above-average skating ability, Tucker finished as the second-highest scoring skater on the Barrie Colts and the seventh-highest scoring defenseman in the OHL. March 2019 – A tough, physical, no-nonsense defender with a bit of an offensive touch. Like an Ian Cole or a smaller Scott Mayfield, but perhaps with more offensive upside. Great for leagues that count Hits and PIM. Dobber
