Fantasy Summary

Good size and quickness with lots of upside. Fantasy value currently capped due to his back-up role in Carolina’s crease. However, he can provide value on nights he starts.

January 2024 – Kochetkov has finally established himself at the NHL level after 2 years of relatively sporadic action. Due to the injury to Fredrick Andersen, Kochetkov has stayed as the 1B goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes and has performed serviceably, with a 2.58 goals against average and a .905% save percentage. His long-term projection is still around a solid 1B at the NHL level, getting about 30-40 games a year. Nick Bass

March 2023 – Pyotr Kochetkov has provided value to both his team and fantasy owners in a backup role so far this season. Kochetkov has been able to bounce back from poor starts and string together strong performances. He has solidified his position in Carolina’s crease for next season and should be in line for more quality starts. J. Brad Johnston

March 2021 – Kochetkov’s season came to an end after a first-round sweep in the KHL playoffs but that should not put a damper on an impressive season by the Canes goalie prospect. He started 10 games in the KHL this season (career high), four for Vityaz Podolsk and six for Novgorod. With Novgorod he started six games with a goals against average of 2.63 and a .931 save percentage (2-0-3 record) and appeared in two playoff games. The 21-year-old looks ready for a bigger workload and should garner more starts next season. Austin Broad

June 2019 – Kochetkov has been drafted 36th overall by the Hurricanes.  Jokke Nevalainen

February 2019 – 19-year-old Kochetkov, who has been passed over twice in the NHL Draft, has been great this season at the VHL which is the second-best pro level in Russia. In fact, he’s been arguably as good as Daniil Tarasov who was drafted in the third round by Columbus two years ago. On top of that, Kochetkov has really made a name for himself in international tournaments. First, he outplayed Tarasov at the CIBC Canada/Russia Series, and then he did the same thing at the World Juniors where he won the WJC Best Goaltender award after leading the Russian team to bronze medal. Kochetkov is likely one of the first goalies to be taken in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He’s quick and agile but also covers a lot of net with his size. There’s definitely potential for him to become a starting goalie in the NHL.  Jokke Nevalainen
