Fantasy Summary

Two-way playmaker with strong hockey IQ

June 2020 – Roman didn’t get signed by the June first deadline, making him a free agent.  Jokke Nevalainen

Jan 2020 – Roman has so far had a terrible season. Vancouver hasn’t been as successful as they would have liked and Roman is best showing off his skills when playing with others who can create space for one another. As Vancouver’s woes continue, so do they for Roman. The Calgary Flames had five draft picks in 2018. Two have signed ELCs. Two are in college. The last is Roman. – Joel Henderson

Sept 2019 – Milos Roman was given fourth line centre minutes in drills, scrimmages, and a preseason prospect game against Edmonton. He is coming off a decently strong year but still needs to improve his foot speed and his overall strength. He has a strong hockey IQ but would be able to use that more if he could create separation and space more effectively. He will be back in Vancouver in the WHL for another year. – Joel Henderson

April 2019 – The Vancouver Giants are off to the WHL Finals despite the offensive struggles of Milos Roman. He currently is sporting eight points in 15 games and while the effort is there he has not been finding the back of the net with the same consistency he did during the season. He’s a high hockey IQ player and he finds ways to be a difference maker. – Joel Henderson

March 2019 – The beginning of March has been tremendous for the consistent forward. He is currently riding a 10-game point streak which includes 12 points in his last four games. He is 57% on faceoff draws during that time as well. Roman is one of the smartest players on the ice each night. He uses his teammates well and loves find open space to get off a quick shot or pounce on a rebound. His shot has dramatically improved over last season too which has led to his goals per game jump from 0.26 to 0.47. He will never dominate the play but would improve any line he is placed upon. – Joel Henderson

December 2018 – Roman was a proven point-producer playing in U16, U18, and U20 level in Czech Republic. After being selected sixth overall in the import draft in 2017, he played his rookie season for Vancouver performing just shy of a point per game. Scouting organizations seemingly had him anywhere from the second to the fifth round as his potential for the NHL draft with most sliding him down their draft board later on in the year after battling some injury concerns. He mostly played as a second line center with offensive prospect Ty Ronning, allowing him to be primarily a playmaker. Calgary liked him enough to acquire an additional fourth round pick to select him during the draft.

Roman’s greatest attribute is his vision and hockey IQ. He always seems to be quite aware of spacing and situations. You won’t find him hanging onto the puck for very long since he loves to keep the puck moving. Vancouver used him in all situations in his rookie campaign but transitioned him primarily to their most consistent offensive weapon when they traded their top scorer early in the 2018-19 season. Roman was used to flinging the puck around and being a net-front player on the power play despite his smaller 5-foot-11 frame but but now has transitioned into more of a shooter. His shot rate and goals are up but don’t let that fool you; he will be a playmaker as he rises through the ranks. His shot is quite accurate but he needs to work on his release and shot power.

He is great at gathering rebounds and moving the puck quickly to unexpected angles for shooters. Sadly, his point production can disappear if he isn’t playing with above average accurate shooters. His skating is still average but his two-way play has come a long way. He went from a draft-eligible player with defensive concerns to quite possibly Vancouver’s top two-way player when healthy.  Joel Henderson
