Evan Barratt

June 2023 – Barratt did not re-sign with the Philadelphia Flyers as he signed with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers of the DEL. He is an NHL unrestricted free agent. Mark Henry 

May 2023 – Barratt was acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers in October from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Cooper Zech. After a two-game stint with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Barratt was sent to the Flyers ECHL affiliate, the Reading Royals, where he spent the remainder of the 2022-2023 season scoring 50 points in 46 games as he clearly did not sulk in the demotion. Barratt is a restricted free agent this summer. If the Flyers do not tender a qualifying offer, he will become an unrestricted free agent. Mark Henry

June 2022 – Evan Barratt has played two seasons with the Rockford Icehogs. In the 2021/2022 regular season he posted an underwhelming 14 goals and 14 assists in 63 games along with only one assist in five playoff games. Barrett was drafted back in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He has since turned 23 in February and the prospect competition is starting to pile up behind him. Currently it’s safe to assume Towes, Dach and possibly Strome (who had a strong end to the season) will be occupying the top three centre roles. Also factor in players such as Borgstom, Kurashev and Johnson – Barrett’s chance to crack the fourth line seems unlikely. Rumors coming out of Chicago indicate that they may be up for a full rebuild under new GM Kyle Davidson. If that were to happen the Blackhawks may be willing to trade away their top players for draft picks and high end prospects, all of which would all likely be ahead of Barratt. Puneet Sharma

April 2020 – Barratt has signed a three-year entry-level contract worth a reported $870,000 per season. The 90th overall pick in the 2017 NHL entry draft led the Penn State Nittany Lions, averaging a point per game in his junior season. The roster is loaded with bottom six talent so earning a spot with the big club will take a top-notch performance at camp. Tony Carr

December 2018 – Barratt has been named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the upcoming World Junior Hockey championships. The sophomore at Penn State does everything well, but his playmaking ability really sets him apart. The most impressive thing about Barratt is his recognition of the weaker areas in his game and his willingness to work on them. It was suggested he had a pass-first mentality so he started shooting the puck more. He needed to work on his skating, which is now well above average. Tony Carr
