Jake Leschyshyn

March 2024 – Leschyshyn, the recently-turned 25-year-old, is having a less-than-impressive campaign in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack. The native Canadian has spent parts of six seasons now in the AHL, along with having appeared in a total of 87 NHL games during the past three seasons. In those 87 games of NHL play, he has accumulated a paltry six points, and after being somewhat close to a point-per-game in AHL play during 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, with 42 points in 52 games played over that span, he is down to 15 points in 34 games played during 2023-2024. Now, at age 25, the left-shot center faces an uphill climb to earn another look at the NHL level in the future. Brendan Ferry

November 2021 – In a week of firsts for Vegas forward prospects, Leschyshyn joined teammates Paul Cotter and Jonas Røndbjerg as each scored their first NHL goal. Leschyshyn’s came on November 13th as he knocked the puck through Thatcher Demko’s five hole to give VGK a third period, 4-3 lead over the Canucks. Earlier in the contest, Leschyshyn also earned his first NHL point assisting on Reilly Smith’s second period tally. In his initial 13 NHL contests, the savvy and versatile son of 17-year NHL vet Curtis Leschyshyn has served on the penalty kill, and largely in a fourth-line role, although his recent work skating in various line combinations with Smith, Jonathan Marchessault, and  Evgenii Dadonov suggest the team is comfortable with increasing his role.  Kevin Wickersham

March 2020- Leschyshyn is in his first full pro season for the Chicago Wolves.He is smart and plays the game from defense out, meaning he takes care of the defensive aspect first. He skates well, has fantastic instincts, which should bode well for his future. He’s used in a third line role, doesn’t see power play time and is often deployed on the first shift after a power play. He is usually on the right side of the puck, keeps the man in front of him, using a quick stick to defend. He is still learning and growing and I can see him making it to the next level in a bottom six role. Danny McGillicuddy

February 2019 – The Regina Pats decided to move their top two offensive players at the WHL trade deadline. Linemates Jake Leschyshyn and Nick Henry moved on to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in an effort to bolster their playoff chances. Since moving to the Hurricanes, Leschyshyn has posted a point-per-game while seeing fewer overall minutes. His 32 points, including 17 goals, in 32 games has helped to showcase the pivot’s two-way game and knack for finding the back of the net.  There is a very tight race going on in the Central Division, and Lethbridge’s depth may provide them with enough firepower to advance to the late stages of the WHL’s playoffs in another month. Mason Black

November 2018 – The last pick in the second round of the 2017 NHL entry draft has been a nice surprise after a somewhat disappointing season in 2017-18. Leschyshyn has found the score sheet consistently and currently sits 15th in WHL scoring with 15 goals and 15 assists in only 22 games played. He’s been playing with Colorado prospect Nick Henry, which has been the one bright spot in an otherwise unsatisfactory start for the Regina Pats; a team that lost most of their star players after loading up for the Memorial Cup last year. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Leschyshyn moved to a contender at some point this season to add depth at the centre position. Mason Black
