July 2023 – Pivonka was a 5th year senior at University of Omaha-Nebraska in 2022-23 where he set a new career high in goals (10). He played four games with Bridgeport but remains without a contract from the Islanders as of 7/3/23. James Iacovone
March 2022 – The offense of NCAA players often blossoms in their junior or senior years, but Pivonka is bucking that trend. The son of former NHLer Michal Pivonka, who had nine points in 29 games last season with Notre Dame, sits at just eight points in 22 appearances in his fourth and final NCAA schedule. He’s the team’s captain, but intangibles and defensive responsibility will get you only so far. Mark Allan
July 2021 – Pivonka’s offensive production has not increased in three NCAA seasons. He’ll almost have to make it in the pros as a checker. Mark Allan
March 2021 – Pivonka got invaluable experience playing for the Americans in the 2020 WJC, but he had only one helper in five appearances. After 28 NCAA outings with Notre Dame, he’s got just eight points, a pace that’s no better than the 11 points he posted in 35 appearances in his sophomore campaign. If he plays in the pros, it will be in a defensive, bottom-six role. Mark Allan
June 2020 – No points in his final three outings of 2019-20 with Notre Dame is par for the course for a player who projects as a bottom-six checker as a pro. Mark Allan
March 2020 – Defensive responsibility is a strength. Offensive production is not. As a sophomore with the University of Notre Dame, he has compiled a mere 11 points in 32 outings, a small improvement over 10 points in a 40-game freshman campaign. NCAA players often blossom as juniors, but the fourth-round pick has not been much of a scorer in the U.S. national program and he has just five points in 17 international appearances. While solidly built, he does not look like an attractive fantasy option down the road. Mark Allan
April 2019 – It was a disappointing season in the offensive end for Pivonka as he was only able to put up an abysmal ten points in 40 games. Fantasy owners shouldn’t start worrying about his point totals yet as it was the first season at the college level for the two-way forward. However, the reality is that Pivonka may never be more than a responsible defensive forward who has trouble putting up any fantasy numbers at the pro level. Nate Duffett
November 2018 – Jacob Pivonka is playing his first year in the NCAA. He has four assists in 12 games for the Fighting Irish. Plays well away from the puck, has some speed and hockey intelligence. Don’t expect him to put up points like his father Michal did playing for the Washington Capitals. His defensive skills are what gives potential to having a regular roster spot down the road. Barring drastic improvements to his offensive game, look elsewhere for fantasy relevancy. Jesse Sherman
