Fantasy Summary
A solid puck carrier with smooth skating abilities. Highly offense-minded. Possesses the size to be in the NHL one day and plays with both his brain and muscles in the defensive zone. His future will get much clearer after a year or two in the AHL, but has the potential to hope for a top-four career on a NHL’s defensive unit.

October 2021 – Cale Fleury was waived by the Kraken as they begin to trim their roster ahead of the start of their inaugural season. He will get reps in the AHL should he go unclaimed, and will likely spend the season there, barring injuries or roster tinkering by Seattle. Alex Wyatt
July 2021 – Fleury has been selected in the 2021 expansion draft and will join the Seattle Kraken organization. Dave Hall
July 2020 – Cale Fleury was apart of the 33-man training camp roster that the Canadiens released on July 12th. Fleury will be used in a depth role. Pablo Ruiz
April 2020 – Fleury had a decent start in the NHL this past season playing in a bottom-pairing role. However, the young blue liner’s game started to hit a rut around the halfway mark of the season and he began to be healthy scratched. He was then sent down to Laval where he got more ice time. Fleury has the right tools to become a top-4 puck-moving defenseman at the NHL level but his game still has lots of fine-tuning to do. Particularly his ability to produce this season was next to non-existent. He only managed a single point in 41 NHL games this year and had 3 points in 14 AHL games. No one is expecting Fleury to become a dominant force in the offensive zone, however, he is going to need to produce more if he is to become an NHL regular. Pablo Ruiz
November 2019 – Surprisingly, Fleury had an excellent training camp and made the Canadiens’ roster to start the year. Although he was a healthy scratch for a handful of games as the Habs rotated Mike Reilly and Brett Kulak into the lineup, it appears Fleury has solidified himself as the team’s 5th blueliner. On Nov 16th against the New Jersey Devils, he scored his first NHL goal and now has one point through 19 games played. Jesse Sherman
June 2019 – Fleury had a respectable rookie year playing for the Laval Rocket with nine goals and 23 points in 60 games. Most of the campaign saw a revolving door of partners, as regulars were either injured or called-up to the Canadiens. The end of the season saw Fleury become part of the top pairing in all situations; indicating gained trust by his coach, Joël Bouchard. There was talk of him getting a stint in Montreal but that did not come to fruition. Another full year or two in the AHL is all but a guarantee before the blueliner attempts to make his mark. In the NHL. Jesse Sherman
July 2018, Don’t look at Cale’s plus-minus stats in the WHL too much. He was simply playing on a struggling, rebuilding Kootenay Ice lineup for most of his junior hockey stay before being traded to the Memorial Cup’s host Regina Pats during the 2017-18 season. This is where Fleury’s talent was officially confirmed as a two-way physical defender with high puck moving skills as he registered 41 points in 51 games in Regina. Fantasy wise, the Calgary, Canada native has all the tools he needs to make a professional impact eventually. Skating comes very easy for him and he can either carry or distribute the puck with efficiency when leaving his own end. While he plays a very reliable and hard working game when in his own end, he can also go a little too far offensively and put his team at risks. His time spent in Regina added to a solid development camp with the Montreal Canadiens at the end of June will have some looking forward to an interesting NHL career, but patience remains the best attitude to have towards him in mid to deeper dynasty leagues.
