Cameron Hebig

January 2020 – Hebig caught everyone’s attention with his strong 2018 camp and an excellent start to the 2018-2019 AHL season but those days are long gone. The soon to be 23-year-old has recorded just two points in 10 games for the Bakersfield Condors this season and has been demoted to the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL. He has performed well in the ECHL as he has recorded 17 points in 20 games but overall he appears to be falling behind younger prospects. His contract with the Edmonton Oilers will expire after this season and the chances of him being resigned at this point seem slim. Jameson Ewasiuk

March 2019 – Hebig has a fantastic start to his pro career registering six goals and 12 points in his first 11 games with the Bakersfield Condors. Unfortunately, since his hot start, the young forward’s production has essentially evaporated. To date, Hebig has recorded 11 goals and 23 points in 54 games (11 points in his last 43 games). His 23 points places him 11th in team scoring and he would likely be lower than that if players like Caleb Jones and Kailer Yamamoto didn’t spend time in the NHL with the Oilers. Hebig plays a 200-foot game and does have some offensive tools but he isn’t a consistent threat at the AHL level yet. He should be considered a project at this point. Jameson Ewasiuk

July 2018 – On December 28, 2017, the Oilers signed free agent WHL forward Cameron Hebig to an entry level contract. Hebig is a hard working player with strong skating who uses his speed effectively on the forecheck. Despite his size, he isn’t afraid to engage physically and overall has a solid compete level. Throughout his WHL career he has been utilized in all situations including he penalty kill. Last season, his overage season, where he played for both the Blades and the Pats, Hebig recorded his best season statistically with 41 goals and 90 points, both of which were tied for 15th in the WHL. The trade to the Regina Pats gave him the extra experience of playing in the Memorial Cup where he recorded four goals and six points in five games played. It isn’t uncommon for players to put up big numbers in their overage seasons in the CHL so expectations should remain low for the undrafted free agent signing until we see how he fares in the AHL.
