Fantasy Summary

Potential middle-six scoring centerman

Observations

October 2020 – Stotts passed through the 2020 NHL Draft without a selection, making him a free agent.  Jokke Nevalainen

June 2020 – Stotts didn’t get signed by the June first deadline. He re-enters the draft.  Jokke Nevalainen

September 2019 – After a brief training camp with the Leafs, Stotts has been reassigned to Junior for the upcoming season. He remains an interesting asset going into his D+2 season, but needs to elevate his game in order to secure a spot in the pros once his WHL career concludes. He should once again receive a big role with the club, and can hopefully continue his trajectory to becoming a reliable centerman who can be on the ice in any situation.  Hayden Soboleski

March 2019 – Stotts finished the regular season with 19 goals, 38 assists, and 54 PIMs in 62 games played – all career-highs. He also took just under 1000 faceoffs on the year, winning 52% of them, and upped his SOG rate from previous years to just under 2/game (it still has room to grow). It’s been a very strong developmental year for the pivot, who is a long-term project but one with lots of promise for multi-category relevance.  Hayden Soboleski

October 2018 – Stotts had some strong moments in training camp and seemed to have strong instincts both with and without the puck. As expected, he will play another year in the WHL, and has been named an Alternate Captain for the Calgary Hitmen. Now in a significant scoring role for the first time, he could be primed for a breakout year offensively. Hayden Soboleski

June 2018 – The Leafs have selected Riley Stotts with their 83rd-overall pick.

Stotts flourished in the WHL once he wasn’t buried on the Calgary depth chart, showing his offensive upside that made him a top prospect from a young age. He can score just as well as he can pass, which is a good trait in a prospect, but needs to improve his even-strength production before he can be considered a serious fantasy prospect. Hold off drafting and re-evaluate after another WHL season of big minutes. Hayden Soboleski
