April 2019 – Vela has signed an AHL deal with the Barracuda after completing four years in the NCAA with the University of New Hampshire. Vela never put up big offensive numbers in the NCAA and projects as no more than AHL depth for now. Vela’s a power forward with some grit to his game and he’ll have to leverage that if there’s any chance of making an NHL appearance one day. Chris Legg
July 2018 – Marcus Vela finished his junior year with the NCAA’s UNH Wildcats, posting 15 points in 33 games. Although his totals are up from his sophomore season he really only improved his numbers slightly from his freshman season. The big centerman is considered an all-around player and can play a rough game if needed. An NHL career is a longshot but he at least has a chance of making a run at a bottom-six spot in the AHL.
