March 2020 – It was a brutal season for the 21-year-old. Due to injuries, he was limited to just seven games for Omsk of the KHL. He grabbed three points in those matches. Manukyan remains a highly creative and entertaining offensive player. Losing a developmental season at his age can be disastrous, so we’ll watch closely to see if he can carve out a real role on the club next season, remain healthy, and start to put up consistent numbers. November 2018 – After the quick start to his KHL season, the 20-year-old winger ran through an icy stretch. He recorded just three points in 20 games and was seeing his ice time slowly creep down. That all changed on November 5th. Manukyan dropped four primary assists and was creating plays all over the ice. Here’s hoping it was the breakthrough he needed to start thriving in the KHL. The plan remains the same for the Canucks’ prospect – see if he can find tangible success in the KHL before signing a deal to cross over and join the Utica Comets. That could happen this coming summer or the next. Or maybe never at all. Manukyan is a high-risk, high-reward prospect. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on him because if he makes it, it’ll be in a big way. Cam Robinson
September 2018 – Manukyan has been adjusting well to full-time life in the KHL. The 20-year-old forward has been deployed in a middle six role seeing around 13 minutes a night. He has 2 goals and five points in 10 games thus far while flashing his high-end skill. A season producing a half-point-per-game would be a strong showing for the 5’7 dynamo and would indicate he may have the goods to transfer over to North America when his KHL deal expires in 2020. June 2018 – The Canucks selected Manukyan late in the sixth round at the NHL Entry Draft. The 5’7 winger owns tremendous offensive ability. He set an MHL points record in 2016-17 when he recorded 39 goals and 105 points in 60 contests – the first and only player to break the century mark in Russia’s top junior circuit. As a recently-turned 20-year-old, he had been passed over in the last two drafts – much to the surprise of many in 2017. This is the exact type of homerun swing organizations should be taking deep on day two. The likelihood of finding an NHL player at that point is low, so why not try and grab one that can be a dynamic contributor if everything breaks right. The Canucks did a similar thing with a fellow-5’7 winger, Petrus Palmu. That’s sure looked good thus far. Manukyan has tremendous fantasy upside with a great deal of risk. He’ll see his role with Omsk increase next season and if he can produce some tangible results, could see himself earn an NHL contract. Cam Robinson
