August 2023 – Over his last three seasons, Jacobs played for three different organizations. This season will be his first has a Blues. In the past three years, he cumulated 113 games, eight goals, and 28 points. While he has a reputation as a defensive defenseman, he must improve his production if he wants to have any chance at making the NHL at 27. Cedrick Blais-Turcotte
August 2021 – Jacobs has signed a one-year (two-way) deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. Dave Hall
March 2020 – Jacobs played a more steady role defensively and on the penalty kill as well. He finally showed enough promise to get called up with New Jersey for a couple of games. Jacobs still has to develop some as far as adapting to the NHL pace. Chris Wassel
April 2019 – Jacobs added just one more points in nine games for Binghamton. While his play on the ice did not get worse, nothing stood out at an elevated level either. Chris Wassel
March 2019 – Jacobs generated three goals and nine assists in 60 games for Binghamton. He has been one of the more steady defensemen for a team very deficient on the blueline. What was telling is the fact that despite all the injuries, the 23-year old was not called up to New Jersey. He may have one more chance to make New Jersey out of camp. The key word is may. Chris Wassel
May 2017 – The big blueliner generated nine assists and 32 penalty minutes in his 49-game AHL campaign. Entering the second of a three-year entry-level deal, Jacobs will likely spend 2017-18 in the minors honing his skills. Right-handed defensemen are in short supply in the Devils’ system, however, so he may get a long preseason look. Kevin Wickersham
December 2016 – After completing last year in the OHL with Sarina scoring four goals and dishing 20 assists in 67 games, Jacobs is finding his way with Albany. Having played one game with the AHL Devils in 2015-16, he has found ice time in 10 games during this campaign with two assists, a minus-three rating, and 10 penalty minutes. Despite limited minutes, Jacobs has displayed skating skill and defensive promise on the blue line and it will be interesting to see how he develops with increased playing time. – Kevin Wickersham
January 2016 – After producing some solid numbers at the beginning of the year for Sarnia, Josh Jacobs has struggled as of late. In 41 games Jacobs has scored one goal and 13 assists. Jacobs is 3rd in scoring among defenseman behind Jakob Chychrun and Jeff King. While Jacobs will never light up the score sheet, it would be promising to see him on the score sheet a little bit more in a high scoring league such as the OHL. Justin Nobre
August 2015 – Jacobs finished his freshman at Michigan State University with nine assists in 35 games. He was one of the Spartans top defenseman as he played both on the power play and penalty kill units. Jacobs also led the team with 72 blocked shots. Jacobs left the Spartans in the summer and will be joining the Sarnia Sting who drafted him in the 4th round of the 2012 OHL priority draft. Jacobs will play a key role next year in the Stings defense as they will be strong contenders for the memorial trophy next year. Justin Nobre
June 2014 – Josh Jacobs was selected by the New Jersey Devils at 41st overall in the 2nd round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Jacobs is a mobile defenseman with great offensive skills and knows how to dish out bone-crushing hits. He has a tendency to have defensive lapses, but projects to be a top four scoring defenseman that has the potential to help out in hits and blocks. –Kevin Won
May 2014 – Josh Jacobs is an excellent skater with the ability to move the rush the puck up the ice or execute a crisp outlet pass. The American defender shows strong defensive skills including great physicality and good gap control but he remains very inconsistent. Jacobs is prone to bad decisions that often lead to turnovers and it’s the main reason scouts question his depth of hockey sense. Offensively, there is upside with Jacobs because his mobility is definitely a threat and the young blueliner can unleash a booming point shot. Committed to Michigan State University, Jacobs will hope to iron out the deficiencies in his game playing big minutes. Brendan Ross
