Casey Fitzgerald

August 2020 – As a mostly stay-at-home defender, Fitzgerald plays a serviceable role with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. He kills penalties and has an active stick, but there are occasional lapses in judgment or effort involving the puck that result in lost possession for his team and dangerous chances for the opponent. He is a fairly mobile defender. After sustaining an injury in January 2020, he did not return for the remainder of the AHL season. He is 23 years old and has just completed the first year of a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres organization. Kevin Wong

February 2020 – Casey Fitzgerald has been out of the lineup since January 31st when the Rochester Americans played the Syracuse Crunch. Fitzgerald has an upper-body injury. When Fitzgerald has been in the lineup, he plays a tough physical game and does not offer much in the offensive zone. In 25 games played this season, he has recorded two goals and six assists. Josh Tessler

July 2019 – Casey Fitzgerald is coming off of his final season with Boston College. His offensive production slowed down in his senior season, but he still possesses great two-way attributes. He’s always fighting for the puck and playing on the boards. The Sabres wanted Fitzgerald to beef up his physicality and he did just that last season. After the Boston College season concluded, Fitzgerald joined the Rochester Americans and managed to muster up three points in four AHL games. While Fitzgerald had some offensive success in his short stint with the Americans, his offensive production will likely tail off as he’s projected to be more of a stay-at-home defenseman. At this point in time, Fitzgerald needs more time in the minors, he’s nowhere close to being a potential call-up. Josh Tessler

January 2018 – One of the more underrated prospects in the system, Fitzgerald has been a remarkably consistent point producer in the college ranks. In his junior year with the Boston College Golden Eagles, he’s sporting the ‘C’ and hovering right around his career pace with 12 points in 20 games. While this might not seem terribly impressive, this is the fourth highest mark on the team with the leading scorer on BC only having 18 points and the next highest scoring d-man to Fitzgerald has 8. Brad Phillips

January 2016 – Drafted one year after his first year of eligibility, Casey Fitzgerald has been showing scouts why he should’ve been selected in 2015. While small, he is always moving his feet and playing with the pace. Fitzgerald is a terrific puck-mover and skater and he can also make a great first pass. During the 2017 World Juniors, Fitzgerald saw time on the 2nd pair while also working on the powerplay. Fitzgerald has a bright future and could become an offensively gifted breakout defenseman if molded and brought up the right way. Max Marko
