Fantasy Summary

Good combination of size and impressive reflexes. A tough injury history, but has the potential to become a low-end starter.

August 2021 – Vladar was traded to the Calgary Flames in return for a third-round draft pick. With the team signing free agent Linus Ullmark, and with Jeremy Swayman’s mini-breakout last season, Vladar’s path to NHL playing time became very muddy. He now joins a Flames organization, where he should push for the backup role in 2021-22 behind starter Jacob Markstrom. Chris Mazza

July 2021 – Vladar split his campaign between three professional leagues, posting stellar numbers in all but the NHL. His time in Boston started out equally as well, with the big goaltender recording three straight wins, but eventually tapered off with three straight losses. He was protected by the Bruins in the Seattle expansion draft, which is no surprise considering Tuukka Rask is a pending UFA and Jeremy Swayman was exempt from being selected. The latter has seemingly surpassed Vladar on the team’s depth chart, however, the Czech goalie would be the next man up should the opportunity arise. Chris Mazza

March 2021 – Vladar is having another excellent campaign, recording great numbers in three different leagues thus far. After posting a sparkling save percentage of 0.956 in six Czech league games, he returned to North America where he has played well in his five starts for Providence. Additionally, he has managed an impressive 1.50 goals-against average in two NHL games played with Boston. His time in the big league also includes a save of the year candidate, where Vladar showed off his reach and athleticism. He has all of the tools to become a potential starter in the NHL, and considering that both Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak are UFAs at season’s end, his opportunity could come as early as 2021-22. Chris Mazza
September 2020 – Vladar had an eventful summer. He signed a three-year contract extension with Boston in August, and later became the first goalie in Bruins history to make his NHL debut in the playoffs. He entered in relief of Jaroslav Halak during the team’s game three loss in its series against Tampa Bay. He finished the game with a save percentage of .800, allowing three goals on 15 shots. While the debut may not have been the one he expected, he still looked solid, making several key saves even as the Lightning were running away with the game. His contract extension transitions from a two-way to a one-way deal in its third year, which makes sense as he should spend at least one more season in the AHL while the Bruins continue to ride the tandem of Rask and Halak. Chris Mazza
June 2020 – Vladar finished the campaign leading the AHL in both goals-against average (1.79) and save percentage (.936%). He split time with the veteran Max Lagacé, as both played well behind an improved Providence Bruins team. Vladar has shown continued positive development, but will likely spend another year in the AHL with both Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak under contract for another season. Chris Mazza
September 2019 – Vladar struggled through this year’s preseason, managing an atrocious save percentage of .793, albeit in limited ice time. He posted underwhelming numbers in his first full AHL season, however he should be locked into a starting role in Providence considering he has the experience advantage over the younger Kyle Keyser. Vladar will look to improve on his consistency troubles in 2019-2020, as he aims to prove that he can earn an NHL role in the future. Chris Mazza

May 2019 – Vladar’s first full season in the AHL was underwhelming, as he managed a save percentage of .898 and a 2.73 GAA while splitting starting duties with Zane McIntyre. In his defense, the Veteran McIntyre did not fare much better, posting nearly identical numbers. With McIntyre’s contract expiring this offseason, Vladar could be in line for a full workload in 2019-2020, which would allow the Bruins and fantasy owners alike to get a glimpse of the goalie’s potential moving forward. Chris Mazza

November 2018 – Vladar has played well in his first full season with the Providence Bruins, despite a mediocre save percentage of .899. He has outplayed Zane McIntyre thus far, although the two should continue to split starts this year. Both are currently seeing their personal numbers regress while playing for a surprisingly weak Bruins team that has just three wins on the campaign. Providence has the talent to turn their season around quickly, while both goaltenders have the ability to keep them in most games. Expect Vladar’s numbers to rebound as he works to climb another rung on Boston’s development ladder. Next stop, NHL backup duties as early as 2019-2020, when Jaroslav Halak’s contract expires. Chris Mazza

September 2017 – Vladar will look to impress coming into camp this year. The young Czech had a bit of an up-and-down season, failing to impress in the ECHL but posting solid numbers in scattered AHL starts. Vladar is not close to being NHL-ready but should see a few more appearances than the mere eight he managed in the AHL last season. Vladar has got the tools to be a solid goaltender but is still a work-in-progress. Mike Drover

November 2016 – Vladar had a great game Nov. 25 on the road versus the Ice Caps. It would not be a stretch to say that Vladar stole the game for the Providence Bruins, who were outplayed for large segments of the game. Vladar is quickly ascending the Bruins’ goalie depth chart and is seeing more game time lately. Vladar has all the tools to be a good goalie at the AHL and even NHL level if he continues to improve at this pace. Michael Drover

April 2016 – Vladar has signed a three-year entry level deal with the Bruins. The signing caps a strong year for Vladar, when he posted a .920 save percentage and 2.31 GAA with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. Still just 18, Vladar is a long-term project, but his size (6-5) and quickness suggest he could be an NHLer one day. Michael Boeckler

June 2015 – The Boston Bruins selected goaltender Daniel Vladar with the 75th pick of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross

June 2015 – Vladar fits the description of a new NHL goalie with size at 6’5”. Vladar’s size alone lets him take up a lot of the net although at only 185 pounds he is pretty lanky. He has the assets that make him an intriguing prospect including a lengthy resume showing solid progression from year to year. Vladar moved to the U20 league in the Czech Republic at age 15 but only played one game, he spent his 16-year-old season at the U18 and U20 level, this past year (2014-15) Vladar played in the U20 and the Czech2 league. Vladar shined at the Czech2 level posting a 1.97 GAA and .933 save percentage in eight starts. He was named to the U20 team and suited up in four games at the U18’s in the Czech Republic putting up a 3.38 GAA stopped over 90% of pucks. Vladar is able to take away the lower part of the net with his quick leg reflexes and some have compared him to Dominik Hasek in terms of his reflexes. Vladar has already been selected into the USHL and could come over, he will be unable to come to the CHL however due to the new CHL import goaltender ban. Benjamin Gallant
