July 2019 – The Sharks signed Gallant to a three year entry level deal after the Red Wings, who drafted Gallant in 2017, chose not to sign him and let him become a UFA. Gallant most recently finished a tryout with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, where he posted four points in four games. Gallant will battle for a bottom six slot on the Barracuda this season. Chris Legg
June 2019 – Gallant did not receive an entry level contract from the Red Wings which means he re-enters the draft. Jokke Nevalainen
May 2019 – Gallant only played a partial season for the Peterborough Petes in his fourth year due to an early season injury, but he played well when he returned, putting up 25 points in 30 games. That was enough to earn a tryout with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, where he scored a goal and added three assists in only four games. The Red Wings will need to make a decision on signing Gallant by June 1. Mark Hillier
February 2018 – Gallant continues to develop in his third season with the Peterborough Petes. He plays a solid defensive game, is good on face-offs and likes to lay the body. Gallant also continues to produce offence in a secondary role, as a strong fore-checker with above average puck skills and a good and accurate shot. Gallant is a strong skater with excellent acceleration, but needs to work on beating defenders and releasing his shot while on the rush. Gallant is a work in progress and is a potential bottom six forward in the NHL with some offensive upside. His fantasy value will be higher in deep leagues that count hits, PIMs and face-offs. Mark Hillier
July 2017 – With their third pick in round three of the draft the Red Wings selected one of the OHL’s most improved players last season, Zack Gallant. In the 2015-2016 season Gallant managed just four points and no goals in 51 games whereas he tallied 47 points in 60 games last season. His offensive progression has been a nice compliment to his high level of intensity and his solid defensive game. He also has the ability to play a physical style and has strong face off skills. Gallant will most likely play a couple more seasons in the OHL before continuing his development in the AHL. He is far from a finished product but definitely has upside at the next level. Gallant has a very intriguing skill set and if his offensive game continues to develop then he could be a very well rounded player at the pro level. His potential is that of a top nine centre for Detroit in the future. Jameson Ewasiuk
