Fantasy Summary

Struggling to perform offensively in the AHL and should be considered a depth prospect at the moment.

October 2017- The road to the NHL has been a tough one for the Canadian center. After showing some promise with the Owen Sound Attack, Platzer was sent to the AHL to get some professional games in. He was still showing the amount of skill he had by putting up two goals and one assist in four games. In the 2015-16 season the small center got his chance to show what he’s got, however, he didn’t provide much, only posting 17 points in 48 games. At the start of the 2016-17 season, the playmaking center was hoping for a bounce back year; sadly, his play didn’t improve and he only scored one goal and added seven assists in 51 games. Platzler now finds himself in the ECHL for the 2017-18 season where he will get another chance to shine. Spencer Pomoty

April 2015 – After losing in the first round of the OHL playoffs, Platzer was signed to an entry level contract by the Oilers. The gaudy offensive numbers from Platzer this season make this announcement unsurprising and he should find himself in Oklahoma City’s lineup very soon. While he needs to fill out his frame a little bit more, Platzer possesses high end skill and could be a diamond in the rough a few seasons from now. Tyler Thomson

March 2015 – Platzer experienced a breakout season in the OHL this year. Appearing in all 68 games for the Owen Sound Attack, he lead the team with 34 goals and 81 points. The totals were good for 16th in the OHL. With the exceptional senior performance it wouldn’t be surprising to see Platzer offered an entry-level contract over the off-season. With a plethora of “long-term projects” from the 2013 draft year, it would be best suited for the Oilers to have Platzer playing professionally in their system. The fifth place Attack take on defending OHL champions Guelph Storm in the first round of the playoffs. Tyler Thomson

December 2014 – Kyle Platzer will hardly be a household name to most with the exception of those who remember every Oilers draft pick and followers of the Ontario Hockey League this season. The modest sized right winger was a surprise pick in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Possessing good raw skills but lacking aggressiveness, Platzer is in the “long-term project” pile for the Oilers.

With an unremarkable five goals and 22 points in his draft year, Platzer followed the performance with a 22 goal, 36 point effort in 2013-14. With the Oilers neglecting to sign Platzer to an entry-level contract, a breakout season is needed with Owen Sound in 2014-15. Thus far he has shown flashes of brilliance along with an improved all-around game for the Attack. In 30 games he has mustered 15 goals and 40 points (he sits in a top-fifteen scoring spot) while playing penalty kill and power play time. The confidence is clearly growing but cannot plateau anytime soon or his days as an Oilers prospect could be numbered. Tyler Thomson
