Fantasy Summary

February 2018 – Zac Leslie was traded from the Los Angeles Kings to the Vegas Golden Knights for future considerations. He was deep on the Kings’ depth chart stuck behind a glut of other left-handed defenders: Muzzin, Martinez, Forbort, Gravel, Fantenberg and MacDermid. Leslie will report to the Chicago Wolves after posting one goal and four assists in 26 games for the Ontario Reign in his third season in the AHL. Vegas also has a handful of NHL-quality defensemen in their system ahead of Leslie but things may clear out sooner in Vegas as many of their defensemen are on the verge of free agency at the conclusion of this season. Leslie will also be on that list as a restricted free agent and at this time he doesn’t hold much value even in very deep fantasy leagues. Mason Black September 2017 – Leslie is trending upward after playing 2016-17 in the AHL for the Reign full-time. The Kings rewarded him with a one-year contract. His 5v5 playing time has increased and he has seen the power play and penalty kill. He finished second in defensive scoring on the Reign last year, but was minus-13. He still has a lot to prove and might only get a year to prove it. Jamie Barber December 2015 – Leslie has encountered growing pains in his inaugural AHL campaign, seeing way more pine than playing time. That said, Ontario’s Calder Cup-defending blueline is deep, and he’s flashed stellar skating and intriguing offensive instincts in his few appearances. Of course, like most offensive defenseman his age, the 21-year-old has work to do in the defensive zone. Zac is raw and will need to take another big step forward or two, but keep an eye out for him. June 2018 – As a restricted free agent, Leslie signed a two-way contract with Vegas for one year at the league minimum. He finished the year splitting time between the Ontario Reign and Chicago Wolves after he was traded to the Golden Knights organization. His point production increased dramatically after the transaction and he ended up posting 17 points in 27 games. Prior to moving to the Wolves he had only five points in 26 games played. He’s still a bit of a long shot to make the NHL at this point, but does provide the Golden Knights with some depth on their back end if they get into a string of injuries. Mason Black
