Fantasy Summary

Goal-scorer with great hands and decent shot. Defensive play and physicality could hinder his shot at a NHL roster spot.

April 2021 – Pu has bounced around through NHL organization after NHL organization, starting in Buffalo before being traded to Carolina, Florida and now Columbus. A lack of playing time has notably affected the winger’s development, as Pu only participated in 18 AHL contests dating back to the beginning of the 2019-2020 season (as well as four ECHL games). Pu entered the AHL back in 2018-2019, coming off a season with Kingston where he registered 39 points in 29 games, but quickly ran into a brick wall scoring only six points in 44 games with Charlotte. These are vital developmental years being wasted due to a lack of game time and there’s a real chance that even though the potential may still be there, Pu’s game likely will not be refined enough to reach the NHL level. Sam McGilligan

November 2020 – Cliff Pu has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for right-handed defenceman, Markus Nutivaara. It’s likely that he will be used as a depth piece in Cleveland, at least until he can provide an uptrend in his development. Dave Hall

April 2020 – The 21-year-old split the season between the AHL and ECHL. Expect Pu to play the majority of the 2020-21 season with AHL Springfield where he’ll continue his development. Fantasy owners will have to be patient but could have a solid bottom-6 role player, here. Keith Fries

February 2019 – Pu has been traded from Carolina to Florida in exchange for future considerations. His stock has definitely plummeted this season.  Pat Quinn

August 2018 – Pu was shipped from Buffalo to Carolina in the Jeff Skinner trade, along with a trio of picks. He will likely start the season in Charlotte, adding to a deep prospect pool already in place.  Pat Quinn

April 2018 – The Kingston Frontenacs are enjoying a deep OHL run, due partly to the successes of many players, one of which is Cliff Pu. He joined the Frontenacs at the Trade Deadline from the London Knights and finished the season with a total of 84 points split between the two teams in 65 games. He had 29 goals and 55 assists as well as a plus-15. In the playoffs, he has 16 points in 11 games, three of which are goals. The right winger has been progressing well and has shown skating improvements, but he scored at about the same pace last year. Next year, Pu will look to take a step in the right direction towards the pros and elevate his game to the next level. Marcus Griep

January 2018 – Pu has been dealt to the Kingston Frontenacs who are loading up for a Memorial Cup run. Pu’s numbers are down ever so slightly over last year’s but look for that to change with the Fronts lining up with the likes of Jason Robertson and Gabe Vilardi. With the London Knights Pu posted 16 goals and 29 assists in 26 games and in his first two games with Kingston he’s scored three times and added one helper. Brad Phillips

August 2017 – Cliff Pu is a dominant scorer at the junior level who possesses strong hockey IQ and a tremendous ability to dish the puck to teammates. He has high upside and, under the right guidance, could find himself to be a bottom-six scorer in the NHL one day. Max Marko
