Mason Mitchell

June 2019 – Mitchell did not get a qualifying offer from the Capitals becoming an unrestricted free agent. At 25 it does not seem like Mitchell will be anything more than a bottom to middle six AHLer. Pat Quinn

March 2019 – Mitchell was injured for a majority of the 2018-2019 season where he registered one point in 11 AHL games, but did manage to score 10 points in nine ECHL games. He may get another chance for the Capitals after this season. Pat Quinn

January 2018 – Mitchell really has not done much for anything for the Bears this season with five points in 23 games. He is only playing bottom six for the Bears but in reality that is where he should be. Mitchell is an energy player who will never put up large point totals. There is a future chance, as some players develop much later, but keep the expectations low with Mitchell. Pat Quinn

March 2017 – The newly signed Mitchell has been more of a bruiser/power forward over his career choosing to rack up the penalty minutes instead of the points. His best season came in his final year of Junior A ice hockey in the Alberta Junior Hockey League where he scored 34 points in 39 games. Every other year he has played he has chipped in points but is not known to take over games with skill but instead changes the pace with hitting. Mitchell’s final two years in the NCAA saw him post 26 points in 50 games. For the remainder of the season he will be playing for the Hershey Bears where he figures to get a bottom six role. His NHL future likely leads to an NHL fourth line but a scoring touch may be in there, will need to see him play in the AHL and with more skilled players to know where he fits. As of now though do not draft unless your league is hits and pims only. Pat Quinn
