Fantasy Summary
Geisser is a big bodied defenseman and appears to have some untapped offense.

June 2024 – Geisser is signed in the Swiss league until 2024-25 when he will become a UFA. It is highly unlikely he will play hockey again in North America. Pat Quinn
February 2023 – For EV Zug int he Swiss National League, Geisser has 16 points in 43 games. He is a top defenseman on his team and takes a lot of important ice time. He will be ~26 by the time his deal expires and may give the NHL one more shot. Geisser will be good for fantasy GMs in multi-cat leagues if he comes over and that is about it. Pat Quinn
September 2022 – After coming back to North America in 2022-23 and playing much better hockey in the AHL, Geisser signed a three-year contract with EV-Zug with the Swiss League. It is unknown if he will attempt an NHL career in three years. Pat Quinn
January 2022 – Geisser returning to the Bears has been good for his development. He is playing solid hockey but the offense in not there as it has not translated well to North America. He scored his first goal of his AHL career at the end of December, it just took 70 games to do so. If he makes the Capitals it will be in a bottom pairing role, perhaps as high as a number four too, but he will not be known for his offense. Pat Quinn
May 2021 – Geisser had his most productive season since he was in the Swiss junior league is 2014-2015 with 22 points in 50 games, good for 11th on the team in scoring. He has never had more than six points in any season since 2017-2018 so this could be an outlier as Geisser is not the type of player who looks to score. It is unknown where he fits long-term with the Capitals as there are prospects ahead of him on the depth chart, but he is still only 22 and there is plenty of time. Pat Quinn
January 2021 – The Capitals will keep Geisser in the Swiss National League for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. Pat Quinn
August 2020 – Geisser was loaned to EV Zug of the Swiss National League to begin the 2020-2021 hockey season. Once training camp opens in the NHL Geisser will be recalled but he will likely, again, spend the year in the AHL and appears destined for a bottom pairing role on the Capitals in the future if he can win out a spot. Pat Quinn
March 2020 – Geisser played 25 remaining games for EV Zug, posting two assists. Scoring is not his strong suit though. He has good size, and thinks the game well, but there is just something missing for him that is not clicking. With the abundance of players on the Bears and Capitals blue line, Geisser is going to have to do more to stand out if he wants to become an NHLer. Pat Quinn
December 2019 – The 2019-2020 season has not gone well for Geisser at all. He has only appeared in seven games of Hershey’s 23 games, and played only one game between October 18 and November 10. With the plethora of defensemen on the Bears the Capitals and Geisser decided it would be best for him to go back to Switzerland’s National League as Washington loaned him to EV Zug for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season. We will see what comes next later on. Pat Quinn
September 2019 – Geisser is looking to make an impact on the Bears this season and stay healthy. He will not be a “fantasy stud” by any means but he should be able to post more than one point in 41 games. The problem for Geisser will be that the Capitals have about eight to 10 defensemen that could play on the Bears this season. He really needs to stand out. Pat Quinn
April 2019 – Geisser’s first season in the AHL has not gone that great statistically and it has also seen him get hurt a few times in the season as he finished with 40 games. There are still a few people ahead of him in the depth chart but he seems as though he can be a solid 4-6 defenseman in the future. Hopefully he can improve statistically to be worth a fantasy gamble but as of now there is not much of any reason to hold on to him for fantasy. Pat Quinn
January 2019 – Geisser was not able to play any games for Switzerland as he was held out all tournament with an injury, right until the deadline showing how much the Swiss wanted him to play. Once healthy he will be back to playing in the AHL, where the Bears’ defense is still decimated by injuries. Pat Quinn
December 2018 – Geisser has only played 18 AHL games this season as he missed a majority of October due to injury and healthy scratches. When in the line up Geisser does not do much to stand out as he is not used high in the line up (when the defense is healthy) for now but has also not done a lot to be moved up, as he only has nine shots in those 18 games. He is still learning the North American game so he will take a few seasons to really stand out in Hershey. Geisser will again be the top defenseman for Switzerland as they will lean on him in all situations and hopefully that ca boost his confidence when he returns to the AHL. Pat Quinn
September 2018 – Geisser was sent down to Hershey of the AHL relatively early as he has not had much experience on North American ice. Geisser will be at the Bears’ training camp and can get used to that system early. With five defensemen with AHL experience ahead of Geisser (alng with anther that can be scratched), he will see limited minutes as he develops this year in Hershey. Pat Quinn
January 2018 – Geisser was a stand out for Switzerland on the back end at the World Junior Championship, but the Swiss team did not have much of a punch in the tournament. In the NLA, the top Swiss league, Geisser has four points in 29 games. He is among the top four defensemen on his team, but his current production is lacking. He has scored in the past leaving the future open to a potential offensive upside. Pat Quinn
