Connor Hobbs

October 2020 – Hobbs has decided to retire from playing professional hockey and has decided to join his brother in U Sports with the Saskatchewan Huskies and go back to school full time. Injuries and mental health really took there toll, but it is good he is back to loving life. Pat Quinn

March 2020 – If the AHL season resumes Hobbs may play in the playoffs but that is likely out the window. It is unknown if he will still be Capitals property for the 2020-2021 season and right now he really needs an organization to take a shot on him. There is still a chance he could rebound, but it is not a great chance.  Pat Quinn

January 2020 – Well I jinxed Hobbs as well. He came back for two games at the end of December and is now out for the season due to shoulder surgery. There was a lot of promise here but now I believe the injuries have really taken a toll as he has not been able to keep a strong foothold in the line up all season. Pat Quinn

December 2019 – Well Hobbs was hurt again at the end of November, it is only expected to be a couple weeks though, so hopefully he is not out long term. He still has just the one point and has been one of the more rotated defensemen on the Bears.  Pat Quinn

October 2019 – Hobbs has been scratched a couple of games but has not looked that bad. He usually plays on the third pairing as the top four is full, but he is at least playing. He currently has one goal but the thing he mainly needs is to stay healthy and wait for an opportunity to succeed. Pat Quinn

September 2019 – Hobbs came in to camp looking to prove the past two seasons were full of back luck and that he would be getting back on track to the promise he showed in the WHL. It would be best if he would play another year in the AHL and develop, but many defensive prospects in the Capitals system are passing him by. Pat Quinn

July 2019 – Hobbs has slightly progressed in his second AHL season, but it was his games played that progressed more than his overall play as the injury still took a toll on his play. He needs a healthy year so the Capitals can see what they have in him. In 2018-2019, Hobbs did increase his penalty minutes and his decision making was vastly improved, but he seemed to be behind the play a lot and slow to catch up. Here is hoping that the injuries are behind Hobbs and he can get a chance on the Bears 1PP. Pat Quinn

March 2019 – Since returning from injury Hobbs has five points in … 21 games as the injury was effecting him as he played. With Hobbs getting back up to speed the Bears became healthy and now they are winning games and are in currently in an AHL playoff spot. Pat Quinn

January 2019 – I jinxed Hobbs, I am sorry. A week after the last update Hobbs was hurt for a month and has just come back mid-January. He played six December games with one assist before going down to injury. Pat Quinn

December 2018 – Hobbs has surprisingly been one of the only healthy defensemen for the Bears to start the season. The Bears are basically Hobbs and Lewington plus ECHLers. In the first two months (21 games) Hobbs has 12 points which is good considering the Bears cannot score. Pat Quinn

September 2018 – Hobbs will be a top four defenseman for Hershey as he looks to stay healthy for the full season and develop his game. There is no room in the NHL for Hobbs so he still has a few years to percolate in the AHL and become a dangerous shot and good defenseman. Pat Quinn

May 2018 – Hobbs had an injury plagued season in his first AHL season ending with 16 points in 44 games. It took his a while to adapt to the faster game but by the end of the season he looked to be finally figuring it out, if only he wasn’t hurt for half of the year. Pat Quinn

January 2018 – Hobbs has been alright for the Hershey Bears this season. To start the AHL season, and during training camp, he really struggled to adapt to the play and looked poor on many occasions. Hobbs was also the annual winner of the “Which Bear will get a fractured wrist this season” award as for the past five seasons at least one player has gotten the injury. Since getting back into the line up in late December he appears more confident, the problem is with the Hershey team as it is not very good, so all point totals do not look great. Hobbs will still see some seasons in the AHL to develop his game as he really needs to assert himself (and his shot) more. Pat Quinn

June 2017 – Hobbs took an even bigger leap this year creating a very strong three year points progression in the WHL for the Regina Pats. He finished the year registering 85 points in 67 games, far more impressive than the breakout previous season of 41 points in 58 games. Hobbs also posted 24 points in 23 games in the playoffs finishing second in points for defensemen playoff scoring. He has become quite a steal for a fifth round pick but still needs seasoning in his overall game. It is likely he will be in the AHL this coming season as there are at least three other prospect defensemen ahead of him, unless he has a great training camp and can steal a roster spot as there is one open. Pat Quinn

December 2016 – Hobbs has exploded this year offensively for the Regina Pats scoring 36 points in 27 games, a 1.33 point per game rate, opposed to the 0.71 ppg he posted last year. He is currently fourth in team scoring and has the most powerplay assists on the team. He also currently has 38 penalty minutes in those games, a little ways off of the 106 last season. Hobbs is one to watch in deeper leagues, and may become one of the better prospect blue liners in a season or two. Pat Quinn

September 2016 – Hobbs shot himself up the Capitals prospect rank in the 2015-2016 WHL season tallying 41 points, 19 of those goals, in 58 games for the Regina Pats. Hobbs brought his mean side with him from his Saskatchewan Midget career, as he registered 106 penalty minutes for the season. He kept the scoring going posting 10 points in 12 playoffs games as a noted “force” on the back end. Hobbs’ play stood out last season so much that he was invited to the Canadian World Junior camp as well, an may be a fixture come December. The Capitals may have lucked into a late round gem, but another season of strong play would be require to make sure the prior season was no fluke. Pat Quinn
