July 2024 – The Winnipeg Jets signed Dylan Coghlan to a one-year deal worth $775,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL, with $250,000 guaranteed. Mark Henry
July 2024 – The Carolina Hurricanes traded Coghlan to the Winnipeg Jets on July 6 for future considerations. He is a restricted free agent. Mark Henry
July 2022 – Coghlan has been traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, along with Max Pacioretty, in exchange for future considerations. Nick Richard
January 2022 – Now in his second NHL campaign, Coghlan has played most frequently on Vegas’ bottom blue line pairing, averaging 14:17 of ice-time per contest and slightly under one block per game. With three goals and eight assists in 29 contests, the soon-to-be 24-year-old is on pace to score 31 points this season, approaching his WHL and early AHL scoring totals. Considering his increasing presence on the power play, Coghlan may be worth a speculative bench addition in deeper leagues. Kevin Wickersham
March 2020 – Coghlan was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He is a 22-year old right handed defenseman playing for the AHL Chicago Wolves. He is more of a finesse player who I see as someone not taking advantage of his size. He has above average skills, skating, and quarterbacks the power play, but does not possess the skills to break down the penalty kill in order to enter the zone. The Wolves do not use the drop pass breakout on the power play and rely on multiple passing or a dump in retrieval style to enter the zone. One set up in the zone, Coghlan is solid. He has good vision, a quick release and anticipates well. he will likely be shuttling back and forth from AHL to NHL in the future. Danny McGillicuddy
January 2018 – After being passed over in his first two draft-eligible seasons Dylan Coghlan signed a three-year entry-level agreement with the Golden Knights. After impressing in their summer development camp, and then again in Vegas’ training camp, he was rewarded with an NHL contract. Since that time Coghlan has rounded out to become a legitimate NHL prospect with offensive upside. Over his four-year tenor in the WHL he has consistently improved his point totals and is flirting with a point-per-game average on Tri-City Americans back end. With the recent acquisition of Jake Bean at the trade deadline the Americans now boast one of the most formidable defensive corps in the WHL, which will almost certainly diminish Coghlan’s powerplay time so one should expect his point totals to drop slightly.
