2020-03-05
Welcome to the Thursday ramblings. It is time to drop my 2020 draft rankings again. There has been some freezing, minimal movement and large leaps! Get excited.
Once again these rankings will be just my opinion, from what I have watched and read, of the top 50 prospects for the 2020 NHL draft.
Also, before we start here is my #GoodTweet of the week:

February/March top 31 rankings
Tier 1
- Alexis Lafreniere, LW (No movement)
Tier 2
- Quinton Byfield, C (No movement)
So far my top two tiers and the rankings of said players have not chance since I started this in December. Why December you ask, well because it is hard to consolidate a ranking for me as I find it stressful. Everyone should see how long it takes me to get my top 50 51 (I made a mistake so now there is an extra one) prospects for the DobberProdpects guide narrowed down
Tier 3
- Marco Rossi, C (Previously 4)
- Lucas Raymond, RW/LW (Previously 3)
- Tim Stutzle, C/W (No movement)
- Cole Perfetti, C/LW (No movement)
- Alexander Holtz, RW/LW (No movement)
Tier 4
- Anton Lundell, C/LW (No movement)
- Jamie Drysdale, D (No movement)
- Noel Gunler, RW/LW (No movement)
- Jan Mysak, LW (No movement)
Tier 5
- Rodion Amirov, LW (No movement … except for me shortening tier 4 because I think they bring a little more to the table and yes I know I rhymed)
- Dawson Mercer, RW (Previously 14)
- Hendrix Lapierre, C (Previously 15)
- Connor Zary, C (Previously 16)
- Kaiden Guhle, D (Previously 27)
- Big move here as I have been much more impressed as I watch him
Tier 6
- Mavrik Bourque, C (Previously 19)
- Jake Sanderson, D (Previously 22)
- Dylan Holloway, C (Previously 13)
- I am starting to doubt his offensive upside and he is looking more and more like one of those “safe” picks
- Yaroslav Askarov, G (No movement)
- I still cannot bring myself to move a goalie too high as their outlook is always so hard to predict no matter how good they originally look, so 20 is really high for me)
- Braden Schneider, D (Previously 24)
- Jacob Perreault, C (Previously 23)
- Jack Quinn, RW (Previously 25)
- Jeremie Poirier, D (Previously 18)
- William Wallinder, D (Previously 29)
- John-Jason Peterka, RW (Previously 49)
- This is a really big jump attributed to me not really paying much attention to him until now / more people told me to watch this kid play
Tier 7
- Justin Barron, D (Previously 17)
- Ty Smilanic, C/W (Previously 28)
- Seth Jarvis, RW (Previously 40)
- Justin Sourdif, RW (No movement)
- Lukas Reichel, LW (Previously 33)
Tier 8 – Also known as 32-51 of my draft ranking
- Jake Neighbours, LW (Previously 34)
- Jaromir Pytlik, C (Previously 35)
- Ryan O’Rourke, D (Previously 36)
- Jean-Luc Foudy, C (Previously 21)
- Brendan Brisson, C (Previously Not Ranked)
- Roni Hirvonen, C (No movement randomly)
- Thomas Bordeleau, C (Previously 46)
- Vasili Ponomaryov, C (Previously 38)
- Marat Khusnutdinov, C (Previously 42)
- Zion Nybeck, RW (Previously 26)
- Daniil Gushchin, RW (Previously 41)
- Shakir Mukhamadullin, D (Previously 32)
- Emil Andrae, D (Previously 48)
- Ridley Greig, C (Previously Not Ranked)
- Helge Grans, D (Previously Not Ranked)
- Topi Niemela, D (Previously 43)
- Antonio Stranges, C/LW (Previously 31)
- Has the skill but is lacking in other areas
- Eemil Viro, D (Previously 39)
- Luke Tuch, LW (Previously Not Ranked)
- Ozzy Wiesblatt, RW (Previously Not Ranked)
Falling out of my top 51
- Lukas Cormier, D (Previously 47)
- Kasper Simontaival, RW (Previously 44)
- Theodor Niederbach, C (Previously 45)
- Alexander Pashin, RW (Previously 50)
Largest Riser
- First round – John-Jason Peterka, RW
- Second round – Brendan Brisson, C
Largest Faller
- First round – Dylan Holloway, C and Jeremie Poirier, D
- Second round – Jean-Luc Foudy, C
