Observations:

March 2018 – Heinen started the season in Providence but illness to David Backes freed up a roster spot. Heinen has seized a role on the Bruins this season and is currently fourth on the team in points among forwards. He has been a mainstay on the teams second powerplay unit and slots in nicely on the second and third line. The chemistry between Heinen, Krejci and Debrusk has been a potent secondary scoring option for the Bruins. Heinen is a great depth scoring pick up, especially with so many Bruins currently out with injury. Sid Osmond

September 2017 – Heinen was also an NCAA standout for the University of Denver scoring 91 points in 81 games over the span of two seasons before signing a pro contract with the Bruins last fall. Heinen already has a year of AHL hockey under his belt which may put him ahead of the pack for a position on the Bruins to start the year. Heinen was dynamite in the Calder Cup Playoffs this spring, leading all rookies in scoring and helping bring the Providence Bruins to the Conference Finals for the first time in eight years. While Heinen was great last year in the AHL, his eight game stint in the NHL was not. Heinen posted a goose-egg in eight games played to go with a minus-3 before getting shipped back down to the minors. If Heinen can prove he’s progressed from then to now he may get another look early this season. Mike Drover

December 2016 – After spending seven scoreless games in the NHL, Danton Heinen has been returned to the AHL and has collected 12 points in 12 games. Heinen is offensively gifted, however it seems that this time the offence didn't translate from the AHL to NHL level. Heinen possesses all the tools required to be a scorer in the NHL but his game still requires some seasoning. Mike Drover

October 2016 Danton Heinen is one of two young Bruins separating themselves from the pack in preseason hockey. Heinen has been on our radar for the last few months after an impressive showing at training camp. Needing help up front after the injury to Vatrano, the Bruins very well may turn to Heinen to start the season. –Mike Drover

July 2016Heinen was a standout player in this year's Bruins' development camp. Heinen is faster, stronger, and more confident on both sides of the puck than he was last season. Not expected to be a contender for the Bruins' lineup in 2016, Heinen has catapulted himself into the discussion for a role on the wing this fall. Heinen has shown fantastic hands and play-making ability beyond his years but will have to be better again in training camp to get a nod. While I don't expect Heinen to make the Bruins' out of camp, it's not completely out of the question. Either way, if Heinen continues to improve at this pace it is only a matter of time before he is lighting the lamp in the NHL. Mike Drover

March, 2015 – In two short years Heinen has gone from being a long shot in Junior B to a NCAA national top-10 scorer at the University of Denver. Heinen's offensive ability more than makes up for his size (he is generously listed at 6-0 and 161 lbs.). Should Heinen add some bulk he has a good shot of making the B's in the next two to four years. Heinen is one to keep an eye on. Michael Boeckler

Fantasy Outlook: B+

His size is his disadvantage, but Heinen has the hands and hockey sense to make it as a top-six NHL forward.
