Leading off today’s prospects ramblings is the news of DobberProspects Radio new host Aynsley Scott making his debut on the podcast. Aynsley joins myself on the show and we introduce two new segments we think will be well received in Draft profile and prospect spotlight. Have a listen to the podcast here. We talk about the fantasy impact on recent prospect news and transactions, spend a lot of time talking CHL Russia series and talk OHL players with OHL Prospects Blog author Brock Otten…
Be sure to check out OHL Prospects Blog as the Preliminary Media/Scouts Poll for Top Ten OHL Draft eligible prospects article is due on Tuesday Nov 21 with contributions from yours truly…
The OHL player of the week is Buffalo prospect Cliff Pu of the London Knights with 12 points in four games, four goals and eight assists. Pu was drafted in the third round in 2016 and is 11% Fantrax owned. Runner up for the award was Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett who was recently returned to the Mississauga Steelheads and posted three goals and four assists in his first three games back in the OHL…
Sticking with Florida Panthers prospects, Jonathan Ang the Panthers fourth round pick in 2016 recently signed his ELC. And is a super speedster with tremendous acceleration, an elegant smooth skating stride and excellent lateral mobility. Ang currently leads the Peterborough Petes in scoring and is ninth overall in the OHL with 12 goals and 30 points in 24 games. Ang is only 2% owned on Fantrax and may take a few years to arrive in the NHL but would be worth the wait…
As a Borowiecki owner in two of my leagues, I was disappointed to see him on the receiving end of a questionable hit into the boards. Boro has returned to Ottawa and will miss at least the rest of the Sens road trip with a concussion. But one door closes, and Monday the Senators recalled top prospect Thomas Chabot, who in 12 AHL games as a rookie has two goals and seven points. What worries me about this situation is the potential of Chabot securing a roster spot with the Sens full time at the expense of a player like Borowiecki…
Checking in on the AHL, two rookies that stand out are forward Dylan Strome of the Arizona Coyotes who has four goals and 18 points in only 12 games with the Tucson Roadrunners, and Sebastian Aho of the New York Islanders. Aho has posted six goals and ten points in 15 games as an AHL rookie. Aho passed through two NHL drafts before the Islanders stole him in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. Aho is only 8% Fantrax owned, which I think is way low. Because he is already 21-years-old his time in the AHL may prove to be short and his early success indicates he is a legit own. He could see time in the NHL with the Islanders before the year is done so look into adding him in your league…
ICYMI Cam Robinson had a solid Ramblings the other day, Draft-Plus One Dominance in European Pro Leagues where he looks at Eeli Tolvanen, Miro Heiskanen and Elias Pettersson specifically. While all three of these players are doing exceptional things, they are likely not available in your fantasy league. But there is another Pettersson you may want to know; Emil Pettersson is a Nashville Predators prospect and he is scoring at a point-per-game pace in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals. With 15 points in 15 games, he is only 3% Fantrax owned. I was first tipped off to this player by McKeens scout Jimmy Hamarin on an episode of DPR where Jimmy said he is a similar player to his brother. Jimmy admitted he doesn’t have quite the same upside as younger brother Elias, but Emil is a similar player with a similar skill set that is highly underrated. Looks like Jimmy was bang on, and it’s not too late to get in on that file in most leagues.
