Observations:
November 2015 – After spending some time on the top line earlier this season, Donskoi has found himself bouncing between the middle-six group of forwards. He has displayed strong work along the boards, and is a nice complementary piece for the skillful group in San Jose. His seven points in 16 games is eighth most on the team. Even with Logan Couture injured, the Finnish forward has yet to see sustained time on the power play. –Cam Robinson
June 2015 – The Sharks signed the two-way forward to a two-year, entry-level, free-agent deal in May after he totalled 49 points, including 19 goals, in 58 games with Karpat Oulu in Finland’s top pro hockey league. A plus-13 rating was a nice peripheral stat. Drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2010 but never signed, Donskoi got the Sharks’ attention when he elevated his play in the 2015 post-season, finishing with 22 points and plus-15 in 19 games. Eight points, including five goals, in eight games at the world championship was icing on the cake for San Jose scouts. Donskoi will not make it to the NHL based on physical play. Although he is not shy about competing for the puck, he does it intelligently with good skating, counter-attacking with above-average stickhandling and passing. More a playmaker than a sniper, he can make players around him better. – Mark Allan
Fantasy Outlook: C+
How much of his scoring will cross the Atlantic is unknown, but his hand and foot skills plus hockey IQ are in his favor.
